“Second, I need engagement rings brought to the residence tomorrow.”
Samir was silent for half a second.
“Do you want options?”
“Yes. Bring several.”
“Before or after the gala?”
“Before the gala. Keep it discreet.”
“I will.”
I could almost hear the questions he wasn’t asking.
“Is there anything else?” he said.
“No, that’s all.”
“I’ll handle it.”
The call ended.
I set the phone down.
I could arrange a position.
I could arrange a ring.
I could give Chrissy a home in Dubai before she had decided whether she wanted one.
I could put cars, staff, money, access, and an entire company behind whatever future I offered her.
None of that could give me the answer.
I returned to the bedroom.
Chrissy shifted in her sleep as I slid beneath the sheet.
I pulled her gently against me.
Tomorrow I would offer her the life I wanted with her.
And then, for once, I would have to wait.
Chapter 5
The private meeting room looked as though the rebrand had reproduced overnight.
Three laptops were open across the table. Final presentation boards leaned against one wall. Someone from the events team had appeared twice to confirm timing for the gala, and a tray of coffee and breakfast sat near the windows because apparently Al-Hadid employees considered starvation an unacceptable presentation strategy.
I stood at the screen in a structured cream dress, clicking through my section of the deck for what had to be the seventh time.
The airport car scheduled for tomorrow morning remained on my itinerary.
I kept not looking at it.
“Slide thirty-two.”
