God, I have a great feeling about this race. About fucking everything.

To new beginnings.

When I walk into the paddock, there’s a crew of people surrounding Oliver Rossi. It looks like they’re congratulating him.

He must have signed with Apex again.

Doesn’t exactly make sense considering what he did to me, but with me about to sign with Gravitas, I can see why they’re holding on to him. He’s still one of the best drivers on the grid and Apex is due for a great season. Just hopefully not as good as Gravitas’s.

I bypass the pseudo-celebration and head toward my side of the garage.

“Hey, Lach.”

“Hey,” I say to my jack man.

“Did you hear?”

“Hear what?” I ask.

“About Rossi.”

“What about him?”

“He just signed a three-year deal with Gravitas racing.”

My feet falter. My heart stops. My head whips over to where Rossi is standing, a grin on his face . . . and looking my way.

What the fuck?

“Rossi?” I ask but I’m not exactly sure what I’m asking. “How?”

I signed the fucking contract.

But they hadn’t signed their part yet.

Monica.

It has to be fucking Monica.

“Apparently someone over there didn’t like some game you played.” He shrugs and grins. “Then again, all’s fair in love and racing, right?”

What the actual fuck?

EPILOGUE

Lachlan

ONE YEAR LATER

“Where are you taking me?”

I look over to Blair as I play with the wine cork in my pocket I’m saving for her. She’s going to want to keep this one. She’s across from me in the seat of the private jet, her face is pressed against the window as she looks out to the miles of ocean beneath us.

The crew has been informed not to tell her where we’re going.

But after the past few months, this is what I needed. To do something for her. To show her how much she means to me. To let her know that I’m more than fine with losing the Gravitas contract because I lost it knowing what I did was right.

By not hiding.
