“Where were we again?” she asks as she steps into me and brings her lips to mine, just as tires crunch on the driveway outside. She laughs against my lips as my balls beg not to be disturbed again. They ache like a sonofabitch after being interrupted more times than I care to count.
“Go away. We don’t want any,” I shout to whoever is on the other side of the door.
“Maybe someone is bringing more cookies,” she teases as I glance over to the kitchen counter with four different baskets of cookies from four different Hamptons’ residents.
“I prefer the cookies I ate last night,” I say, as every single moment comes back for my own viewing pleasure.
She bursts out laughing. “Every single time that Nancy lady would slide her hand across the island and say how much she loved the granite’s texture, all I could think of—”
“Was you sliding over it last night.” Legs spread. Mouth parted. My name being moaned. Yep, that was definitely the visual I had when Nancy was droning on about how gorgeous the slab was.
“Mm-hmm.” Vaughn’s smile is just as suggestive as her voice is husky at the thought.
There’s a knock at the door.
“Fuck this,” I growl and walk over to where my cell phone has happily stayed unused during most of our time here.
“What are you doing?”
“Ignoring whoever that is.” I begin to type a text. “We’re having a party.”
“A what?” She coughs the words out.
“A party. Let them all come. Let them all look. Let them all feed their own damn curiosity about the woman Ryker Lockhart has brought to the Hamptons, and then they’ll leave us the fuck alone on our last day here.”
“You mean let them define us?” she asks with a lift of her brow and coy smile.
“Their words, baby. Not ours.” I pick four names of my neighbors to add to the text and hit send. “Within an hour the whole town will know.”
“That’s one way to deal with it.” She laughs.
“Yep. Let them come. Let them stare at how gorgeous you are and how you’re not the least bit enthralled with all of the monetary trappings here . . . and then they can go home and gossip, but I get to stay here and keep you to myself without interruption.”
One can hope.
“I like the without interruption part.”
“Now where were we?” I ask as I pull her against me, my fingers tugging on the tie of her bikini top.
“Oops. I seem to have lost my top,” she murmurs against my lips.
“You’re about to lose your bottoms too.”
“Please and thank you.”
CHAPTER FIFTY-TWO
Vaughn
The amount of people here is ridiculous.
“Who knew there were this many people in this sleepy little town,” I say to Ryker.
“They’ll come out for gossip,” he says with a lift of his brows and presses a kiss to the side of my cheek. “You okay?”
“Yes. I’m fine. Go talk to your friends.”
“I wouldn’t exactly call these people friends,” he says wryly.
