“You can’t do that.” Rolling to his side, Greg spat blood from his mouth. A glob of it landed on my foot. I started down at it for a second before wiping it on his shirt.
“I can and will do anything I like, Gregory. You’re a smart man. Haven’t you realized yet that I run this city? By dawn, you will.”
“Fuck you, Daniil Popov. I’m going to take everything from you. I’m going to ruin you.”
I kicked him straight in the face, sending him sprawling backwards. I didn’t look back as I walked away. Apologizing to the two women who were waiting outside, I made my way to the office.
Each step closer to Lily was meant to make me calmer, but it was just the opposite. That was the kind of man she had promised herself to. The kind of man she loved.
Throwing open the door, my eyes found her straight away. There were still tears pouring down her cheek, and my eyes fixed on them. Was she crying because that asshole had hurt her or because she thought I was going to hurt him?
Women. I rolled my eyes. I would never understand them.
“Daniil.” She was half off of the plush leather sofa by the time I got to her. Pushing gently on her shoulders, I fell to my knees in front of her.
“I was worried.”
“Be quiet,” I ordered because I couldn’t stand to hear her voice concern for that piece of shit. As gently as I could, I surveyed the damage to her throat.
There were red finger marks on it. “This is going to hurt.” Gently, I stroked downward.
“I’ll be fine. Did you—” She swallowed hard and grimaced with pain. “Is Greg—” she trailed off.
“Is he dead?” I finished for her. My hands reached her shoulders and pushed her back against the cool leather. “That’s what you want to ask me isn’t it?
She nodded. A different sort of rage filled me. Leaning over her, I brought her face to mine. “He hurt you, he sold you, he fucking used you for years, and you’re still shedding tears for him. Why is that?” My eyes darkened as they skimmed her face. “Do you love him that much?”
“No, I just don’t—”
My lips slid over hers, my hand went to the back of her head, and held her still. “I didn’t kill him, Lily. But I will if he touches you again. Is that understood? I will kill him for even looking at you. You don’t belong to him anymore. You’re mine, and I don’t share.” I crushed her under me, our bodies sliding down the leather until I was on top of her.
Hungrily my lips found the rapidly forming bruises on her throat and kissed each and every one. “I am so angry with you, Lily,” I growled out against her skin.
“Why?”
Lifting myself up on my elbows, I stared down at her. “Why? You left your security when I told you to stay with him,” I snapped. “That alone deserves punishment. But it’s more than that. You’re sweet and intelligent, and you fucking chose to give years to him. You let him put a ring on your finger.” I sucked in a ragged breath. “You loved him.”
She didn’t say a word. She just stared at me, and that just made me madder. She wasn’t denying it. She fucking loved him.
I hated that.
“Yes,” she whispered, and it was like all the air left my body. “I did.”
Sitting up, I dragged her over my lap so her ass was staring up at me. Placing both hands on her cheeks, I landed. “Did?” I queried because I wasn’t sure I had heard right.
“Did I think?”
I let out a shaky breath and then struck. Using my open palm I swatted at her ass hard enough to hurt, but not hard enough to do any real damage.
“Daniil, what are you doing?”
“Punishing you,” I said, and I did it again. Keeping one hand on the small of her back, I yanked up her dress, baring her round ass and the tiny string-like thong she was wearing.
“Why?” Reaching behind her, she scrambled to cover herself. “I didn’t do anything wrong.”
“You loved him, you let him use you, then you put yourself in danger by walking away from your security. He could have hurt you worse than he did.” I punctuated each statement with another spanking. The sound of my hand against her naked ass was so beautiful, but not as beautiful as the tiny whimpers that were escaping from her lips.
“And you did it all,” slap. This one was harder than the others, and she cried out in pain. I kneaded the red blotch on her creamy skin with my fingers. “With nothing under this dress but this silly scrap of material. That may add absolutely nothing.”
