My stomach flipped as Daniil took a step forward.
“Please,” I grabbed at his arm, drawing his eyes to me. There was a look in them that I didn’t like. A different person looked back at me. And it was a person who revelled in violence.
“Please don’t hurt him.” Tears still fell from my eyes.
Daniil didn’t blink.” Take her back to my office,” he ordered, ignoring me completely.
The sound of the first punch hit me before the bathroom doorway was fully closed, and bile rushed up my throat.
“Is he going to kill him?” I whispered.
“Maybe.”
That wasn’t the answer I wanted to hear. I felt sick. Greg had been drunk, but that didn’t mean he served to die.
“Mr. Popov is very protective of the people he cares about, Miss Ridgeway. Now follow me, please. There is nothing you can do there.”
Silently, I followed after him.
Ok, I had been wrong. Daniil wasnt a puppy dog at all. Daniil Popov was an attack dog.
The wet sound of fist hitting flesh filled my ears.
A feral beast, every rumor I heard about him was true.
Chapter Nineteen
Daniil
The sound of my fist hitting Greg’s face over and over again was like music to my ears.
He had touched her. Not just that, but he’d had his grubby pathetic hand around her throat and the other hand reaching under her skirt like she was his. Lily was no longer his. She was mine.
Again, my fist slammed down, my knuckles splitting with the force of my blow. Not that I felt the pain, there was nothing but rage inside of me. White hot and all-consuming.
“She,” smash. “IS NOT YOURS,” I roared.
I felt one of his teeth come loose and go flying, but I didn’t even stop when he started choking on his own blood.
“Sir.” Someone muttered behind me. I ignored them totally. My men knew better than to get in my way when I was in this kind of mood. My anger could quite easily turn on them. Someone else knocked on the door.
“Sir,” his voice was more urgent.
Slowly I turned my hand to see him and one other person between the man and the door. “What?” I snapped.
“Do you really want to do this?”
It wasn’t the caution I expected. I glanced down at the bloody unrecognizable ass below me and felt my fury double. “Yes,” I said through gritted teeth and let my fist smash back down. The sound of his nose breaking made me smile.
“Yes.” Grabbing hold of Greg’s collar, I heaved him upwards until our faces were just inches apart. “Touch her again and I’ll fucking kill you. Do you understand that?”
The man behind me grumbled. “What I mean, sir, is that you want to finish this somewhere more private.”
Again I look down at Greg’s face, surprised to find him smiling with his blood-soaked teeth. “Are you really going to kill me over a piece of ass?”
Jesus, I didn’t know when to stop. For someone who was meant to be seriously smart, he was a dumb shit. “Touch her again, and I will.” Jumping to my feet, I wiped my bloody hand down my trousers.
Straightening, I rolled my shoulders. “Get him out of here. I don’t want him in any of my establishments again.” I nudged the prone body with the toe of my shoe. “Call in every debt that he has with us.”
