“It’s just Fernando with the police,” Kerian assured me. “We called them as soon as we saw what was going on. Lainey, I’m so sorry we didn’t see it sooner. This should never have happened. We told you you’d be safe with us, and we failed you. I’m so, so sorry.”
I tuned out what was going on outside of this cocoon of Alphas I was wrapped up in. Lost in the feeling of safety and comfort, I let out a whimper when Kerian sat back. Another pair of arms scooped me up and lifted me off Quintin’s lap, only to be cradled like a child against Halstead’s broad chest.
“We got you, my sweet girl, and we’re going home,” Halstead murmured, kissing my forehead. “The police took Reuben away along with a copy of his attack on you without the audio, of course. He’s not going to get out of this one, I’ll make damn sure of it, and if he does wriggle his way out of jail… let’s just say no one will find the body when I’m done with him.”
Licking my dry lips, I managed to find my voice. “Did you finish the code?”
“Fuck yeah, we did,” Kerian answered instead. “The moment we hit enter, sending that virus to attack, is when the security alert popped up on my computer. It’s my fault we didn’t see the alert sooner. I have it set so when I’m in that code program, only certain level alerts make it past the Do-Not-Disturb setting. Fuck, I can’t fucking believe that bastard managed to get into our building, up the elevator, and into the office. It doesn’t make sense.”
There was silence as we stepped into the elevator, and I scanned the panel, knowing you needed a keycard with the right permissions to get to the top floor. Only a limited few people had that access besides the four of us, Sam, and Fernando. Then it dawned on me.
“Fire the security officer. He was clearly paid off and has zero loyalty to you or this company,” I stated, just as the doors opened, and there was the man.
“Heading—”
“You’re fired effective right the fuck this second.” Halstead growled. “Give Kerian your radio so he can contact Fernando to remove all sensitive Enigma access before escorting you from the building.”
The man’s stunned expression was genuine, but it was more the fact that he didn’t think he’d ever get caught. “Sir, what is the meaning of this?”
Quintin stepped into the guard’s personal space, not at all concerned that the guard had a hundred pounds and three inches on him. “I hope whatever he bribed you with was worth it because I’ll see to it that you never work in security again. You fucked up, and I mean you fucked up bad. That man you let up who was then removed in handcuffs by the police, you know what he did?”
The guard shook his head furiously.
“He assaulted that woman who happens to be our Omega, who is also pregnant,” Quintin spat. “Trust me when I say you won’t even be able to guard a cemetery by the time I’m finished with you. Oh… you also want to be sure that Fernando never finds out that you were also the one who allowed that asshole up who attacked Sam.”
“I’m sorry, Mr. Price… what did you just say about Sam?” Fernando asked through gritted teeth, eyes flashing in rage as he stared at the man. “This fucknugget is the one who let up the man who assaulted my partner as well as yours?”
“Oops,” Quintin commented before stepping back from the guard, who now looked like he might throw up or pass out or possibly both. “I let you handle things from here, Fernando.”
“Trust me, it will be dealt with to the letter of the law,” Fernando assured.
When we exited the building, instead of Kerian’s SUV pulling up, a sleek white car was in its place. The driver got out and opened the door, but rather than opening the normal way toward the front of the car, it did the opposite. Inside was plush and comfortable, with seats like a limousine facing each other. Yet the most amazing part was the whole middle was full of pillows and blankets like a nest.
“I thought it would be better like this so we didn’t have to be separated,” Halstead commented as he settled me in the pile of pillows. “If you hate it, then we can switch cars. I know you’re not always comfortable giving into your Omega side.”
Twining our fingers together, I kissed the back of his large hand. “It’s perfect, thank you.”
“Far from perfect, but I’m glad you like it,” he grumbled, settling in beside me and tucking me under his arm.
“You know what could make this even more perfect?” I asked. All three of them looked at me with curious expressions.
Halstead pressed a kiss to my temple. “Tell us whatever you and the little growing life inside you need, and I’ll make it fucking happen, baby doll.”
“Tell the whole fucking world that we’re a family, and if they fuck with us, then we’ll destroy them,” I answered.
Kerian and Quintin chuckled as they arranged themselves around me, awaiting Halstead’s answer since he was the one who made the rule in the first place. The grumpy bear looked down at me then tentatively placed his hand on my stomach, letting his thumb stroke over my shirt.
“I thought I was doing the right thing keeping everyone out of the limelight, allowing them to have their own lives and not be hounded by people trying to garner a favor. Times change as do people, and I think I’ve let my fear keep me from telling the whole world I’m blessed with three people I love more than anything else in this world,” Halstead admitted. “You’re right, Lainey, not only should it have happened ages ago, but I won’t raise a child thinking they need to be kept a secret. I’ll make it happen… it’s what all of us deserve.”
Pulling him down to me, I kissed him, putting all the feelings I didn’t know how to put into words behind it. “Thank you, and just for a little added motivation, none of you can mark me until it’s been announced.”
“You drive a hard bargain, woman,” Halstead grumbled.
“Don’t even try that on me, you grumpy bear.” I laughed and gave him a quick kiss. “You love that I challenge you. It’s part of my charm.”
“Vixen, there isn’t any part of you that we don’t love,” Kerian pointed out, twining our fingers together. “Let’s just hope this kid of ours doesn’t get H’s personality… one of them is enough for this family.”
That had us all laughing until our cheeks hurt, and Halstead got a stitch in his side, which he complained about even after we got home and everyone curled up in my nest, in my home, where I planned to spend the rest of my life with these three men… and the little one who would join us before long.
