When I thought he was going to leave the bed upset with what I’d said, he did the opposite. He laid down between my legs but placed himself so his head was on my stomach and his arms wrapped around my waist. Before I knew what my hand was doing, it was combing through his hair, making him nuzzle into me.
“You can be mad, but you can’t leave. Just tell us what we have to do to fix it,” Ghost mumbled, acting like a toddler.
“Let’s talk over breakfast, I had some time to think over things last night, but I want us to have a conversation altogether,” I said. “Is Magnus around?”
“I’m right here, doll,” Magnus announced. “I agree that a conversation would be a good place to start, but I will add that Ghost wasn’t being cute when we say you can’t leave. We’ll do whatever we need to, but you returning to LA is not on the table. There are reports of more assassins getting called in after another failed attempt on Dax. Instead of a kill order, it’s a find and capture.”
Chapter eight
Harper
The euphoric feeling I’d had from Ghost’s version of a wake-up call evaporated instantly. “There was another attempt on Dax? Do you know anything else? Is she all right?”
“Weston reached out to let us know about the latest hit, but we are waiting to hear more information. They had to go radio silent and camp out in a safe house she had already set up,” Magnus explained. “What we’re more concerned about is the fact they still want you. I figured they would drop it once you vanished, but you’re the weakest link in the people who mean something to Dax.”
Sitting up, I grabbed a pillow to hug for support and to cover myself, not feeling like leaving myself exposed. “So they want to kidnap me to draw her out? God, I’m not sure if I should feel offended or not being called the weakest link.”
“What the world doesn’t know yet is if they fuck with you, they fuck with us, and no one will live through that,” Jaxson stated, as an expression I’ve never seen crossed his face, and it made me extremely glad he was on my side.
“Am I in danger here?” I asked, looking at all three of them.
Suddenly, with all this coming to light, I was grateful they could track my every move. If someone did come after me, at least I knew they could get me back.
Magnus kneeled in front of me on the bed and reached out to hold my throat, gently caressing a thumb up and down my pulse. “Doll, you are the safest woman in the world. If anyone tries to fuck with you, they won’t be breathing for long.”
“Screw that. If they even manage to get close enough to get a glimpse of my angel, I take ‘em out and leave the body where people will take notice, so they get the message,” Ghost grumbled as he slid off the bed and stalked into the bathroom.
Magnus’s grip tightened slightly, bringing my gaze back to him. “I was going to offer, in good faith, for us to remove the tracker, but I’ve since changed my mind. While I know we can keep you safe, I don’t like to take unnecessary risks when it comes to things that are mine.”
Holy fuck, that shouldn’t be so hot, but goddammit, if it isn’t the sexiest thing someone has ever said to me.
“Leave it. I was just thinking to myself that knowing you can find me gives me peace of mind,” I said, struggling to keep my voice from betraying my train of thought.
“That’s my good girl,” Magnus purred, leaning in to kiss me slowly and deeply before pulling back. “Now go take a shower and get ready for the day. I’ll have breakfast waiting for you when you’re done.”
There was no other way to respond to that than to nod my head and watch him leave. I had to admit, with these triplets, they were a sight to see coming and going.
“You’re thinking something dirty, aren’t you, gorgeous,” Jaxson whispered in my ear, scaring the shit out of me, having forgotten he was there.
With a yelp, I flailed and almost fell out of bed, but Jaxson was there to rescue me, pulling me back up, laughing.
“Don’t do crap like that, Jax. I almost cracked my head open, falling off the bed,” I muttered, chucking a pillow at him and sliding off the bed—feet first this time.
When I reached the bathroom, I found it empty, which surprised me, not seeing Ghost leave it. Clearly, I was going to need to accept the fact that living with ninjas was going to give me gray hair at a young age.
Like everything else in this house, the bathroom had a surprising lack of walls other than the three that made up the space itself. The floor was all stone, and there was a drain in the middle of the floor with a showerhead coming down from the ceiling. A stone bench took up the length of one wall in the shower area where it wasn’t really needed in the flow of the room. This made me wonder if they put it in just so shower sex could happen.
I turned the knob, and water started to rain over my body as I adjusted the temperature. Leaning my head back, I made sure my hair got good and soaked before I realized I didn’t look for shampoo or conditioner. The triplets hardly had any hair, and they were boys. A bar of soap might be all they used. When I glanced around the space, I sighed. There, in the corner, was a set of shelves with what I was looking for. I shouldn’t be shocked they had all the products I usually used, even down to the cheerful yellow razor. I got it because, in my shower, it was always so dark, it made it easy to find.
Grabbing the shampoo, I lathered up, going through the motions of dealing with my ten pounds of hair. Hands reached out and stopped me as I was scrubbing at my scalp. “Let me,” Jaxson ordered as he pulled my hands away.
This wasn’t the first time I’d showered with a guy, but it was the first time they wanted to wash my hair. A moan slipped out the second he started massaging my scalp with his strong fingers. I was putty in his hands as he washed, rinsed, and conditioned my hair all the while humming a song I didn’t know. After rinsing out the conditioner, I figured we were done and started to turn off the water, only to be tugged away.
“Oh no, gorgeous, I’m not done with you. Don’t forget I know your routine, and today is shaving day,” Jaxson pointed out.
“It’s fine, really, yeah, I do it every other day, but that’s work Harper. Vacation Harper says that’s too much work,” I whined as he held me against his naked body. “Magnus is making food, and I haven’t had coffee. Shaving will take too long.”
“Not if I do it for you,” Jaxson said as he started to run a soapy loofa over my stomach. “I promise I’m very good with a blade, but I’ll use your razor this time since it’s your first experience.”
