As my body relaxed, he sped up and the sound of our pleasure filled the room, but there reached a point I needed more. Pulling out of his hold I sat up rolling my hips against his thrusts grinding my center against his pelvis getting that added stimulation I was looking for. Jade didn’t miss a beat and moved with me as I sped up feeling that pressure building up in me once again making me chase after it. I whimpered as I crested and exploded with joy that prickled along my skin in the best way possible. Jade slammed up into me holding me still as he thrust wildly grunting as he burst within me making my own pleasure echo through my body once again.

Depleted I flopped against Jade’s chest panting and grinning like a fool. “That needs to happen again... when I feel my legs again. Why on earth do they make it sound like this is awful for women?”

“Because, little bird, it only feels like this when you give your heart to it. This experience wouldn’t happen with just anyone, but I agree we will absolutely be doing this again, and again, and again for as long as you’ll let me.”

“We have to go back don’t we since we didn’t tell the others we were coming up here.” I sighed into Jade’s neck.

“I think we can stay a little longer, get one more round in before I have to share you with the others again,” Jade answered, kissing the top of my head. “I’ll just need a quick nap first.”

After the nap Jade woke me up with his head between my legs once again. This time when he thrust into me he was on top staring down at me like I was his whole world. Every time we tried to get up and leave to head back we kept getting distracted and ended up spending the night in our little love nest until the morning light woke us up. Vasin dropped us off in the open field closest to Marta’s house and we walked back still in our lover’s glow... that is until we stepped through the door and saw the others waiting for us.

“What the fuck, Cassarah?” Cole barked the moment he saw me rushing over to me. “Do you know how worried we’ve been? Where the hell did you two go last night that you couldn’t bother to inform the rest of us?”

“Don’t you dare talk to her like that,” Jade growled, shoving Cole away from me. “You might be her consort but she is still our queen and will be treated that way. Cassarah was with me up in the castle, we went looking for something in the king’s study and ended up spending the night there.”

“You should have at least left a note with the viceroy that you left, I didn’t know if she’d been kidnapped or was lying hurt somewhere. It’s my job to keep her safe and if I don’t know where she is how can I do that?” Cole shot back. “Put yourself in my shoes reaper. What would you do if she went off with just me and you didn’t know what happened or when she would be back? Do you really feel like only having one of us is enough to keep her safe?”

Hearing the fear in Cole’s voice had me moving around Jade and wrapping my arms around Cole. “I’m sorry, you’re absolutely right I should have left a note. When I asked Jade to take me up there, I didn’t think we’d end up being there all night.”

Cole hugged me so tightly I was having trouble breathing. When he loosened his hold, he gripped my chin and turned my face up to his, slamming his mouth to mine. He kissed me like I’d been gone for months not hours, and even though I’d just spent the night with Jade, my body yearned for Cole. Now that I had let myself accept how I feel about these men I could understand how easy it is to love more than one of them at the same time. Each gave me something that the other couldn’t, making every connection unique.

When Cole broke our kiss, he rested his head against mine just holding me. “Don’t do that to me again little mouse, I’m not sure my heart can take it.”

“I’m sorry I worried you,” I whispered just for him to hear.

“You know some of us were worried about her as well,” Dayson interjected when it didn’t seem like Cole was ever going to let me go. “You need to work on the whole sharing thing there, brother.”

Cole let out an irritated huff but released me to face the others in the room. All of them looked upset on various levels but none seemed quite as angry as Cole had been, still I had been selfish in what I’d done not letting any of them know that we’d be gone all night. Part of being a good leader was learning from your mistakes and this had been a misstep on my part. “I owe you all an apology, Cole’s right I should have left a note or told anyone else back at the village hall where I was going. Then when I didn’t come back at least you would have known where to start looking. I will do my best to make sure that it doesn’t happen again.”

Abbott stepped forward and grasped my hands. “We are learning how best to look out for you as well and I think the shock of not knowing how to find you if we lost you hit us all hard. Being in the village makes us feel safe and we’ve let down our guard when your protection needs to be at the top of our list all the time, not just when we feel danger is possible. These people are growing to love and respect you but there will come a time when you have to make a call they won’t agree with and it will make them lash out. As your guardians we need to be aware that this can happen at any time without warning. So if you need a break or time to yourself you just need to let us know so we can make that happen and ensure your safety.”

Hearing Abbott talk I realized that I had needed a break, a night to just be Cassarah, a woman in love, not the Dragon Queen. “We’ll figure this out together, we are all going to make mistakes, it’s learning from them that’s important.”

“Wise words little warrior, now come eat breakfast with us and fill us in on what you were looking for,” Izel instructed, pulling out a seat for me.

At this moment I knew that we could make this work, all of us together. Now we just had to survive the battle that was looming in on us.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

The Plot Thickens

“So the king knew the Dragon Queen would be you?” Zan questioned once I’d filled them in on the letter and my own dreams. “Do you think he experienced what you did with the Raven Queen or just had one long vision?”

“That is what I was trying to look for in the study, but we didn’t get far,” I explained, hoping that they wouldn’t ask me why we didn’t get more information. Each of them seemed to mull this information over far too distracted to question the rest of what I said.

“Alright so we all go back with you and sort through what he had left in his study. With all of us helping it will happen much faster and then come up with a plan of action,” Paxton offered.

I was surprised at Paxton’s idea. He’d been one that was all action and didn’t waste time on the details. For him to spearhead the idea of spending the day looking through old books and scrolls was not like him. “It would make things go faster. Have we gotten any reports on the Lost Kings movements?”

“There hasn’t been much movement, it seems he is making Norden his base gathering all his troops to one place. There are more of them than we first expected, even with the dragons this is going to be a battle that will be told for generations to come,” Izel shared.

Knowing that battle loomed in the distance was one thing but realizing that I was going to be the one to find a way to stop it was something I still couldn’t wrap my head around. The coronation was in two days and after that it would be full speed into battle plans, we’d already been having the soldiers training double time and having everyone else brush up on their skills since they didn’t practice as much as the soldiers did. Even in the midst of celebration we kept the battle to come in our minds, forgetting that danger was lurking out there that could get us killed.

“Shall we head up there now? I think it might be best before anyone else comes to claim me,” I suggested standing from the table.

“No time like the present,” Gavin agreed as we gathered plates to bring into the kitchen.

Marta made it clear that we weren’t allowed to assist in any other way or we would be slapped on the hand queen or no queen. It seems all of us mercenary women had a stubborn streak to us but since she agreed to be our cook I relented.
