“I’ll be seeing you soon, Sloane.”
Chapter 3
Sloane
Seere vanished before my eyes, a trick he really seemed to enjoy performing, considering I couldn’t remember him ever entering or leaving a room through a doorway. The knot in my stomach accompanied me to my bedroom, where my phone charger was plugged in next to my bed.
My phone was my lifeline. Every appointment was booked on my calendar. Hundreds of contacts and even more social media connections lived in my pocket—or, more realistically, in my hand. I was rarely out of contact with my assistant and never unavailable to my clients. For the last six seasons, I’d been the agent for several of the top NHL players, so I didn’t get much sleep.
When the screen lit up, I only had a handful of missed notifications, but the one I looked at first was from my best friend that I’d been with at the party.
Maxie
You’re not going to believe what happened after you left with that cutie.
Maxine loved drama and lived for these sorts of reports. I scrolled to the solid paragraph that recapped her night.
Maxie
First, there was some chick wandering around, looking for the owner of that exclusive bar we went to last week. I guess he knew someone at the party, but she claims to have fucked him in the DJ booth. I didn’t see him there, but she went on and on about how huge his dick was. Anyway, not even twenty minutes later, there’s some crazy commotion out in the water. Like, a whole ass boat sank! Then, while everyone was outside, trying to see the wreck, some guy FELL OFF THE CLIFF! HE DIED!
Can you believe it?
Sloane?
Bitch, you better answer me!
Sloane
Holy shit. That’s wild!
I typed my response quickly, but my gut clenched. Now I knew who that blond guy talking to Seere was.
It was Sitri. Fuck. What had Sitri been doing there?
I couldn’t blame the woman who had been searching for him at the party. Seere had first introduced me to him years ago, when we’d visited The Deacon. He was so sexy and charismatic. It had been easy to get lost in his smile. Seere had threatened to take me right there on the dance floor to remind me that I was his and he wouldn’t be sharing.
Classic possessive Prince of Wrath.
Maxie
I know! BTW, if you didn’t answer in the next five minutes, I was going to report it to the sexy cop who’s blocking off the LITERAL CRIME SCENE
Sloane
Are you saying that guy falling wasn’t an accident?
Maxie
No one knows anything. We’re all still trying to get ride services to clear out, but he told that crazy dick-loving chick that he felt like he was being watched. Creepy, right?
Sloane
So creepy. But you’re okay?
Maxie
Yeah. I’m good. Ashton is giving me a ride home.
