“He called her when we came out of the doctor’s office. I’m guessing he’s been having her followed for him to know where we were.”
“Then he probably knows where she’s been laying her head. You need to get her back to the states like, today. I’ve already called for the jet.”
“I hear you. We’re just gonna come grab a few things and head to the jet strip.”
“Hurry up.”
She hung up and so did I. I looked over at Mia, who was pouting like shit right now. I knew she was mad, and I knew she wanted to get at JacQues, but her cover was blown. It was gonna take time to rework the plan because we couldn’t move like we intended to anymore. It was bad enough that we were shooting in broad daylight. Stray bullets could have claimed a number of innocent lives and we didn’t move like that. Ever.
The best place for her to be was back home with her people, especially with her being pregnant. Niggas like JacQues would still be around months from now. As long as there were people to traffic, he’d keep moving business as usual.
I reached over and grabbed Mia’s hand. Bringing it to my lips, I kissed her fingers.
“Daddy will make it up to you,” I jested.
She glared at me. “You can start by kissing my ass.”
“You want me to kiss the ass cheeks or the ass crack?”
She tried not to smile, but it failed her.
“I can’t stand you,” she said, snatching her hand away.
“You love me, though.”
She sighed. “I do.”
“Give me them lips.”
She unhooked her seatbelt and leaned across the center console. Cupping my chin, she pressed her lips to mine. I kept my eyes on the road as she tongued me down.
“I need some dick on the jet,” she said, licking from my neck to my earlobe as she grabbed my dick. “All that made me excited.”
I chuckled. “I got your crazy ass, mamas.”
She grinned as she sat back in her seat, hand still possessive on my shit. Ten minutes later, we were pulling into the driveway of her house. The others were already there and heading inside. I got out and went around to let my wife out. We’d gotten halfway up the steps before she turned around.
“Left my phone!” she called over her shoulder.
I nodded as I pulled a blunt from my pocket. As I felt around for my lighter, a weird feeling came over me… an inkling of sorts. When I looked up, it was like everything was happening in slow motion. That same SUV from earlier crept by, the back window rolled down, and JacQues’ face appeared with a sinister smile as he aimed his gun right at Mia.
“Get down!” I yelled.
Bullets started flying as I tried my hardest to make it to my wife. That was my only concern. When I saw her drop to the ground, gripping her stomach, my adrenaline began to rush. My mind said I was bulletproof because I dipped and dogged bullets to get to her.
Gunfire ceased, and the SUV sped off.
All I could see when I made it to Mia was blood… so much fucking blood. Ms. Maddie came running out the house screaming, and the guys were right behind her.
“No, no, no, no… Mia! Oh, God, not my baby!”
She dropped to her knees, damn near knocking me over.
“Mia… Mia, baby hold on for Mommy!”
“He—he shot me—” she whispered. “He shot me…. the baby—”
I looked down to see her hand covering her stomach. When she moved it, blood gushed from the open wound.
