“You might be Han’some’s wife, but you’ll never be her mother.” Without turning around, I knew it was Fontana.
I shook my head and folded my arms over my chest. Turning my head to glance to the left, I said, “I’ve never tried to take your place in Skye’s life. She knows who her mother is, but she knows who I am to her as well. You should be happy to know I treat your daughter like my own.”
I prepared to walk away because I didn’t have the energy to go back and forth with her, nor was this the place for it. Unfortunately for me, she was thirsty for a confrontation with me and rushed in front of me to block my escape path. Two of her minions took up a place on either side of her.
I chuckled with a sigh. “Really? What’s your issue with me?”
She took a step toward me and rolled her neck. “You stole my life!” she hollered like a raging bull.
“I could never steal what truly belonged to you, Fontana.” She continued to disappoint me with her childish ways. “You’re literally a beautiful woman and could have any man you want, so why do you want mine so bad? Is it the money?” I tapped my chin, twisting my lips to the side. “I mean, if it’s the dick, I can understand your obsession, but baby girl, I’m never coming up off that. Should’ve locked in when you had the chance, mama.”
Ready to find our seats before the recital began, I stepped around them. “Bitch!” I heard her yell when my shoulder bumped hers on my way by.
One second, I felt the pressure of her hand on my shoulder, then in the next, it was gone. I turned to find Han’some pinning her against the wall. “Aye, keep your muthafuckin’ hands off my wife. She’s pregnant, and if anything happens to my child, I promise you’re not going to like how I deal with you.” His voice was so low it made my pussy thump because I could hear him whispering in my ear the same way while he drilled my shit from the side.
Her friends gasped from the truth bomb he dropped while Fontana’s eyes flooded with tears. “She’s having your baby?” She was truly heartbroken and befuddled by the possibility. Delusion was one hell of a drug, because how didn’t she know she’d long ago ruined any chances of getting back with Han’some?
Han’some released her, only to secure my hand in his. “Yeah, so watch how you’re talking to and approaching that one. If it’s not about Skye, then there’s nothing to say. Remember where you are and why you’re here.” He looked Tana up and down with disgust curling his bottom lip. Turning to me, he relaxed his features. “Sorry about that. Come on, baby. They’re starting.”
His hand rested on the small of my back as I was escorted away. Once we were sitting down, he took my hand in his and rested it on his thigh. “What are you smiling at, crazy lady?”
I could only rest my head on his shoulder. “Nothing. I just love you.”
He lifted our hands to kiss the back of mine softly. “I love you too, baby.”
“You know the whole world is going to know we’re expecting by the time we leave here, right?”
I felt him tense beside me. “Fuck,” he cursed under his breath, realizing his mistake, but all too late. Fontana was about to call us every name in the book while exposing our little secret. I just prayed my parents didn’t find out prematurely and ruin the surprise I planned for them. I was going to be pissed if she took that moment away from us.
Reaching for some paper towels, I quickly dried my hands. Tonight, I wasn’t working, so after my studio session I came home to cook dinner for my wife. I made her my infamous seafood-baked potato with a NY strip and broccoli on the side. To ease her mind, I even handled the dishes and cleaning up so she could relax.
Koi was officially four months, and her belly was taking form. Because I was so afraid she’d leave me if I slipped up, I waited on her hand and foot. When I said she wouldn’t have any worries, I truly meant it. Every morning and night, you could find me singing to her belly because I wanted my baby to know Daddy was here and always would be.
Since the kitchen was clean, I shut off the lights on my way out. The house was quiet, so I had to go search for Koi. I was on the way to our bedroom figuring she was in there, but my steps slowed when I heard her whispering on the phone. Peeking through the crack in the door, I saw her lounging in my man cave like she was right.
“Wow, so y’all going out without me?” she whined.
“Yeah, it’s no point in inviting you when that husband of yours is going to come snatch you up. Just stay in the house and finish letting that baby bake,” I heard Marni tell her.
Koi pouted then leaned forward to rest her chin on her hands. “If y’all hate me, just say that.”
Merci’s voice was the next I heard. “It’s always love. Your man just strict as fuck.”
I snickered in the doorway and slapped a hand over my mouth, but I realized it was too late. She’d spotted me spying on her call with her cousins. “Are you hearing how your behavior has gotten me exiled from the group functions?”
I pushed the door open to walk deeper into the room. “It’s really your fault for being so beautiful. If you were ugly, it wouldn’t be an issue, honestly.”
She eyed me suspiciously. “And why is that?”
“Because no one would want you but me.” I shrugged my shoulders with a smirk. She raced toward me and began beating on me. Laughter flowed from the depths of my soul. I tried to get away, but she straddled me on the couch to continue her assault. “Aight, you better stop before I get the wrong idea.”
I bit my bottom lip, allowing my hands to roam over her soft skin. She nuzzled her nose against mine. “Can you keep your dick to yourself for more than one day?”
I gripped her ass cheeks with a grin. “I tried, but I swear, you be seducing me. Your perfume alone is enough to entice me into devouring you.”
“Oh my God. Bye, Koi. Don’t nobody want to hear this shit,” Marni fussed seconds before the phone beeped, indicating she’d hung up.
Koi snickered with a hand over her mouth. “See. You made me forget they were on the phone.”
