I didn’t need to ask why. JJ’s phone rang. He answered, “Hey. WHAT?!” I glanced at him sharply. Fairy’s being able to charm our phones was great and awful. My cousin said, “Yeah, I got it.” He hung up but he had a look on his face that said I wasn’t going to like this.

I asked, “Who was that?” JJ ordered, “Pull over.” I growled, “Why?” My cousin pointed at the shoulder of the road, “Just pull over.” I did as he said and parked. I asked, “What happened?” JJ said, “Thelx escaped.”

I snarled, “WHAT?! HOW?!” Channing grumbled, “He could’ve just been dead. That would’ve been better.” JJ said, “Apparently there’s a leak in his cell which created a puddle of water.” I blinked several times then asked, “And?!”

JJ explained, “Apparently the second Emmett threw him into the cell and turned his back he dove into the water. Then he was just gone.” I asked, “What the hell type of Supernatural can do that?! It was a puddle for god’s sake! You dive into a puddle.”

JJ said, “It’s a very clear puddle now. Malachi started talking to himself. He and Emmett were checking something out.” I growled, “I need to run.” JJ encouraged that thought, “Well, let’s go then.” I wasn’t worried about my cousin keeping up.

I took off into the forest and shifted. We ran several miles before I calmed down. I knew I shouldn’t be surprised I ended up at Odette’s. I shifted back and waved to JJ. My cousin told me, “I’ll bring your truck here.” I called, “Thanks, man.”

I nodded to Ken and let myself into Odette’s place. I walked into her bedroom and tears filled my eyes. I wasn’t going to lose her, she was mine. Channing agreed, “Ours.” Luke couldn’t have my mate. What the hell could go through water like that?

Water Fairies turn to water, but I knew Thelx nor Odette were Fae. I linked dad, “Did we check nearby bodies of water?” Dad answered, “All our allies did, but Thelx didn’t show up. We knew she wasn’t a water Fairy though. I’m sorry, Keaton.”

I snorted, “What were you supposed to do? Keep him away from puddles? We had no way of knowing. Now we know that detail we didn’t before. They are bold and arrogant, whatever they are. We will capture another one of them and know better. The idiots are merely giving us all the tools we need for later.”

Dad replied, “You’re right. We will adjust our strategies. Malachi is sending out a memo.” Of course, he was. I said, “I know that we will figure this out.” Dad agreed, “We will and we will keep Not Katie safe.” I snorted, “Thanks for making me laugh, old man.”

Channing linked me, “At least we didn’t tell Thelx mate is ours.” That’s true. The reaction to that news on their side could’ve been bad. I didn’t need Luke knowing just how far I would go to protect Odette. He could think it was about his threats.

That would make my mate’s ex discount me more than he already was. Whatever he was, he had to know how Wolves felt about their mates. He’d probably double his efforts to get her. I linked Keith, “If Luke had someone in our pack it can’t be someone in school. Most of the school suspects Odette is my mate. Thelx didn’t know Odette was mine, and neither did Luke. They haven’t even asked if it’s possible. They seem to think I just like her because of some thrall she has. So, who the hell is their source?”

Keith replied, “Could it be someone in a different pack?” I asked, “Why would another pack talk about me?” Keith answered, “You stay out of the shadows with other packs. Maybe someone heard someone wanted information on our pack. Specifically, about you. They thought it would be an easy way to make money.” Maybe that was it, but it felt wrong. I had a thought, but I couldn’t grasp it.

When I sat on the edge of the bed, Odette woke up. I loved that smile on her face. That innocent little smile she gave me that I wanted to see every day for the rest of my life. I wanted to marry her one day. I wanted pups. Hell, I wanted it all. Odette was mine and Luke wasn’t going to get a hold of her.

I linked Emmett, “You got the name from Luna Melanie with our mole that provided the Supernatural council with information, right?” Emmett answered, “I did.” I asked, “Could they be providing Luke the information on me?” I didn’t know who it was, but Emmett handled it.

My brother replied, “No, it couldn’t be that mole. I wouldn’t have someone like that in our pack. I found them a new pack, and their new Alpha is watching them like a hawk. Their communications are monitored, and they are on probation. If they sold information about our pack; I’d know.”

I snorted, “Someone will take a traitor but not Lisa. What does that say about her?” Emmett laughed, “Nothing good.” I had to agree. Channing snorted, “That we had a momentary, few years, lapse in judgment we moved on from.” Everything faded away, and Odette and I lost ourselves in each other.

In the following weeks, Emmett assigned a group to follow Odette. I made sure they knew what I’d do to them if they lost her. They were officially terrified of me. Keith said I went overboard. So, I simply asked what if May needed guards. Then my twin was on my side. Jules was shadowing Odette too which made me less jumpy.

Emmett was annoyed because he thought with the extra shadows we’d get to talk to Jag. Since we knew he was following Odette, but we couldn’t get a whiff of him. Maybe he left, finally. Channing grumbled, “And left our mate alone.” I was all for that.

Emmett linked me while I was giving Odette a driving lesson, “Luna Elise just gave birth. Two future Alphas.” I replied, “That’s amazing!” I knew my godparents would be thrilled. I texted Uncle Eric.

Me: Congratulations on your grandpups!

I focused back on Odette’s driving lesson. She was a lot better than she used to be. My mate was going to be able to pass, barely squeaking by, her driver’s test for her license after a few more lessons. So long as she didn’t have any more high speed chases. Channing purred, “Mate did that for us.” Yes, she had.

Emmett linked me, “The scary techy Luna has gone OFF the rails.” I asked, “What does that mean?” I felt like with Melanie it could mean a lot. Emmett replied, “It means that the scary techy Luna has run off into a trap. That was actually set for the Crown Prince of the Hackura’s mate. Because the Ring has gone INSANE.”

I replied, “Hastein hasn’t announced he found his mate.” I didn’t even know he had. Emmett snorted, “I know that. I knew he had because Uncle Heath told me, but it was a secret. It won’t matter to Hastein that he hasn’t announced it.”

I asked, “Ok, so Luna Melanie is….” Emmett interrupted, “In the clutches of the Ring which is all on purpose. Apparently, she has a plan. Alexander does not care for her plan. Which means the Conners do not care for her plan. All that to say, we are going to war.”

I looked at Odette. I asked Emmett, “Who is watching Odette?” Emmett answered, “The Warriors I assigned are staying behind to watch her. Immy has some assigned to her as well. Jules is being pulled off her because she’s coming with us. The wolf shadows should be enough.” He was right.

That wasn’t going to go over well with Immy though. She was perfectly capable of fighting, but I wasn’t going to wade into those waters. I was sure Joanie and my mom would say enough. Immy’s skills were easily being underutilized because her family was overprotective.

Odette joked about her friend coming to help us or being the one to hold Luna Melanie hostage. Thankfully, her friend was not behind this since I really didn’t want to tell her, ‘oh hey so Supernatural’s exist, and your friend got her head exploded because Alexander does that to people when he’s mad.’

‘Then there is the fact that Melanie is his mate and he loves her. Oh, and uhhh you’re my mate. Sorry about your friend being dead, but she messed with the Supernatural world. Don’t panic.’ I was certain that would not go over well. Channing agreed, “Not well at all, but we can watch out for mate’s friend that’s not coming to help us save Freya.” Yeah, that would be easy.

I didn’t want to leave Odette. Ken linked me, “She’s safe.” I replied, “You’re coming, aren’t you?” Ken answered, “I’ll be there tomorrow. It sounds like the battle will be then. I’ll stay with not Katie until I can’t.” I nodded.
