“They really are. If you come to the Fortuna Pack, you can see that for yourselves,” Alex said. “The pack is also offering sanctuary to those that need it.”

Muttering started up again.

“Have your drinks and as you do, tell us more,” Remmy told them, putting the pints on the bar.

CHAPTER 13

Blake made it to the training ground and saw his mum going through the warm-up, so he wasn’t that late.

Martha looked at Blake and shook her head. “You’re late; drop and do thirty push-ups.”

“Mum,” Blake complained. “I was busy, you know me being Alpha King and all.”

“We’re all busy; that is no excuse, Blake,” she said sternly as she glared at him. “Now please.”

Blake got down and started his punishment.

He heard laughter from nearby and looked up and saw Nick and Mateo laughing at him.

“Shut up,” he told them, looking down and doing another.

“Just think I'm recording this,” Nick said happily.

The others sniggered.

“Nicholas, drop and give me thirty as well.”

“What!” he exclaimed, spinning around to look at her. “Why?”

“Because I told you to.”

Nick groaned, put his phone away and, moving next to Blake, started his punishment.

“Your mum is mean,” Nick commented quietly to Blake.

“You’re only figuring this out now?”

“Yeah, my bad. I knew I should have stayed inside and worked.”

“Why didn’t you?” Blake asked.

“Because I’m stupid,” Nick said, doing another push-up.

“That must be thirty by now,” Blake said, standing up.

“Same here,” Nick agreed, also standing up.

“Nicholas, I thought accountants could count,” Martha said, walking over to them, crossing her arms over her chest.

“I can. Pretty sure that was thirty.”

“You did twenty-five; Blake did twenty-seven. Both of you, do them again.”

“And this is why I skip training,” Blake grumbled.

“This is why I’m skipping it from now on,” Nick added as they both got down to start again.

“While Blake and Nicholas finish their punishments, we will start training,” Martha said, walking back to the front of the training ground.
