Edmund growled but backed down, slinking away. Nora helped the faerie up with an apologetic look before returning to Rafe, who watched her in a sexually, over-protective way. Damn, she could get use to that look.

She watched as a vampire grabbed a wolf by the throat. Rafe thrust himself between the two in an instant, wrenching them apart with a snarl. Nora backed up, giving them space. She knew better than to get between fighting alphas.

As she moved, she noticed several patrons eyeing her hungrily. A huge male troll stumbled her way. “Hey, there beautiful, want to come ride me?”

The male was slurring his words. Trolls did not drink and certainly could not get drunk on anything they served at the bar. That reaffirmed that what was happening was not natural.

“Back off,” she warned, voice laced with power. She did not need this right now.

Her hands glowed, ready to defend herself. The message was clear—she was not to be trifled with.

“Come on, don’t be like that,” the big giant almost roared, his eyes glazed over with lust.

“Touch her and die.” Rafe stepped between Nora and the Troll; eyes wild with fury as he pulled her behind him. His wolf growled, almost breaking through. His muscles bulged under his shirt and Nora’s core clenched. She wanted to rip off his clothes and take him right there.

“Whoa, dude, chill out.” The troll momentarily came to his senses and backed away. Immediately, a female gargoyle caught him to her, her hand delving into his pants to grab his cock. The troll did not resist.

If the situation hadn’t been so serious, Nora would have found the entire situation funny.

That was until a female vampire approached Rafe. Or rather, she launched herself from two feet away. Rafe instinctively caught her and she didn’t waste any time devouring his mouth.

“I don’t think so, bitch,” Nora growled, beginning to mutter beneath her breath. In a flash, the woman was gone, replaced by a gnarly looking bat. The animal flew away quickly.

Rafe turned her way, his eyes flashing silver. “Oh, no, you don’t big boy,” she warned, holding out her hand as if she could stop him.

“Mine,” Rafe growled, grabbing her arm. His touch burned her skin, intensifying the ache between her legs.

Nora shook her head, trying to clear it. Something had washed over her the moment he’d touched her. Something that told her to turn around, present her ass and let him fuck her hard and fast.

“Can’t…resist,” he growled, muscles tensing. He crowded her against the bar, lips on her neck. “I knew you were mine the second I saw you.”

“Oh, that’s not true. It’s some kind of spell.” However much she might have wanted it to be true, she had to be honest with the wolf.

“Spell be damned. I know you were my mate the moment I saw you.”

“Magic can be very powerful. And unpredictable.” She didn’t have to raise her voice to be heard about the noise surrounding them thanks to his shifter hearing. That was something that she appreciated very much at the moment. She didn’t want anyone to know what was going on between them. They would no doubt jump to the conclusion that she had cast the spell to catch the wolf—and it had gone wrong—again.

“Well, this is a special turn of events,” Dil shouted, coming up behind them.

“What do we need to do?” Rafe asked. While he still felt slightly out of control, he had corralled his wolf—at least for now.

Dil shrugged. “There’s really nothing to do. The spell will simply have to fade away. Take her away from here.”

The elf reached into his pocket and withdrew a large skeleton key. It was literally made of bone since touching iron was potentially deadly to the fae. He tossed it to Rafe. “There’s a cabin at the edge of town. Go there and wait it out.”

“Will you be okay?” Nora asked, concern evident in her voice.

“Darling, this is my dream come true,” Dil replied with a wink.

“Let’s go, Nora.” Rafe grabbed her hand, leading her through the throng of bodies, keeping a wary eye on the rest of the bar’s occupants.

“So...this mating spell doesn’t seem to be affecting you,” she said casually. The scent of lust was thickening in the air, and it was clear the mating heat spell had taken hold.

Rafe’s eyes flashed silver. “No, but that doesn’t mean I don’t feel the urge. Your scent is...intoxicating.”

“Damn,” Rafe muttered, catching sight of a pair of wolves across the bar who seemed to be on the verge of a public display of affection better suited for a private setting. Thankfully, they weren’t part of his pack. The need to reach out to them was strong, but the need to protect Nora, his mate, was stronger. “This is escalating quickly.”

Nora cringed at the spectacle unfolding before her, feeling an uncomfortable shiver run down her spine. She could sense the magic behind the spell, but she knew she lacked the power to counteract it. “I’ve never seen anything like this,” she admitted, her voice wavering. “It’s like every creature in here is suddenly being driven wild by their basest instincts.”
