"I can't keep letting you—"
"I'm taking you shopping." I said it calmly.
She sighed, looking down at herself. "I can't go out like this. I smell like you and the ocean."
I laughed. "Shit, I'm wearing the same thing too." I looked down at my own clothes, then back at her, smirking. "And what's wrong with smelling like me? You could bottle my scent and sell it."
She rolled her eyes, smiling. "You're ridiculous."
"I'm serious." I pulled her closer. "Shit, I smell like you too, and I'm cool with that. Walking around basking in the ambiance."
She burst out laughing, shaking her head. "Okay. Since you put it that way, we can go."
I grabbed her hand, lacing our fingers together, and led her toward the door.
CHAPTER NINETEEN
By the time we made it to Boca Mall, I had already told myself I wasn't going to let him go overboard. That lasted about ten minutes. We started at one of the designer boutiques near the entrance, and before I could even finish looking through a rack, Jokah had already pulled three outfits off the shelf and handed them to the associate trailing behind us.
"Jokah, I don't need all that."
"I know." He kept walking, grabbing another blouse off a mannequin like it was nothing. "Try it on anyway."
I disappeared into the fitting room, and when I stepped out in the first outfit, he was leaning back against the wall with his arms crossed, watching the entrance like he had been waiting his whole life for me to walk through it.
"Well?" I turned slowly, giving him the full view.
"Beautiful."
"You have to say that."
"I don't have to say anything." He pushed off the wall and walked over, tucking a loose strand of hair behind my ear before pressing a soft kiss to my forehead. "I say it because it's true."
I felt my cheeks warm, and I let myself lean into him for a second, grateful for how easy it was to forget everything that had happened that morning whenever I was with him.
Just a few hours earlier, I had been pinned against a wall, terrified and humiliated. Now I was standing in a dressing room laughing with a man who couldn't seem to stop touching me. Whether it was my face, my hand, or the small of my back, he always found a reason to remind me he was there.
What scared me the most wasn't how quickly my mood had changed. It was how safe I felt with him already.
We moved from store to store after that, Christian Louboutin, D&G, Gucci, Moncler, Chanel, stopping in Lululemon so I could grab a few outfits, then Bath & Body Works and Pink because he insisted I needed options, whatever that meant coming from a man who probably never had to think twice about a price tag in his life.
"Jokah, I'm a simple girl," I told him somewhere around the third designer store, watching him hand his card over yet again. "I don't need all this."
"I know." He slid his sunglasses up onto his head, glancing back at me with that same easy confidence he wore for everything. "But this how I shop. So, this is how you gon' shop too."
"That's not how this works."
"It does now. My woman will always get the best."
I shook my head, laughing, and he reached for my hand, lacing our fingers together as we walked toward the next store. Before the associate even had a chance to greet us, he stole a quick kiss, making me laugh all over again.
My phone buzzed hard against my palm right as we stepped inside. It was Kyrie. I felt my stomach drop for half a second before Jokah's eyes caught the screen over my shoulder.
"That’s him?"
"Yeah."
I didn't wait for him to say anything else. Last night, he made it very clear that when we were together, he wanted my full attention. With that being said, I powered the phone off completely, dropping it into my new purse, and slipping my hand back into his.
