I stood up. Not because I was trying to intimidate her. I just needed her to understand I wasn't doing this.

"Don't do this. I don't like scenes."

She didn't move.

"Leave now."

She stared at me another second before shaking her head. "I can't believe you."

"You embarrassing yourself. Take your drunk ass home."

Her homegirl finally grabbed her arm again. "Come on, Shania."

"You gon' regret this."

"I doubt it."

She looked at me like she wanted me to change my mind, but I didn't. A few seconds later, they disappeared back into the crowd.

Poncho let out a low whistle. "Boy, you cold."

I picked my drink back up. "I told her I was done a month ago."

"Some women don't know how to let go."

"Ain't my problem."

I stared out into the crowd before taking another sip of my drink. Truth is I wasn't mad at her I was done. A man can only wake up to twenty missed calls so many times before that shit get old. Every conversation turned into an argument. Every argument turned into a scene. Every scene ended with her crying, accusing me of shit, or trying to make me feel guilty for wanting space.

Shania was beautiful. Hell, anybody with eyes could see that. She was the type of woman who could walk into any room and turn heads without saying a word. The bitch was bad. Too bad it didn’t carry throughout her. Shania was rotten on the inside. She was insecure as hell.

If I didn't answer the phone, I was cheating. If I went out with my homeboys, she wanted to know every nigga that was there and every female that walked through the door. That shit got old fast. Then there was the other problem. She ain't wanna do shit. All she wanted to do was party, sleep, shop, and spend my money like I owed her a lifestyle she ain't work for. She wasn't interested in school, a job or starting a business, that I was willing to fund. She always had an excuse about why she couldn’t do something. Every time I asked her what she wanted outta life, she would tell me, you!

That wasn't enough for me. I liked women with ambition. Women who had goals and wanted something for themselves besides a man with money. If you ain't got no drive, you damn sure wasn't gone have me. I could deal with a lot of bullshit, like bad attitudes and smart mouths. Hell, I actually liked a woman with a little mouth on her. But what I wasn't gone deal with was a woman disturbing my peace. If I tell you I'm done. I'm done. Ain't no break, no let's fix it or calling me from six different numbers. Let that shit go!

The crazy part was, leaving her wasn't even the hardest part. It was walking away from her son. Lil' man was eleven, and me and him had built a real bond over the past two years. I showed up for his football games, helped him with homework when he needed it, and spent more time talking to him than his own daddy did. He was a good kid. I fucked with him heavy, but I couldn’t fuck with his mama no more. As much as I cared about him, I couldn't keep holding on to a relationship that had already run its course just because of him. It wouldn't have been fair to either one of us. Sometimes loving somebody's child still ain't enough to make you keep loving the parent.

The DJ switched songs, pulling me back into the moment. I took another sip of my drink, bobbed my head to the beat, and pushed all that Shania shit clean out my head. I ain't come here thinking about my ex. That chapter was closed. I came to drink, laugh with my niggas, and enjoy my night. I wasn't about to let nobody kill my vibe tonight. And that’s when I spotted her again. She was still over there laughing with her homegirl.

"Nigga!" Poncho followed my line of sight. "Damn, lil' mama fine."

"Mm-hmm."

"You know her?"

"Nah."

He looked back at me. "Then why you keep looking at her?"

I took another sip of my drink, never taking my eyes off her. "Cause she ain't looked over here not one damn time."

"Maybe she got a nigga." Poncho laughed.

"So?"

Before he could answer, one of the bottle girls stopped beside me carrying a chilled bottle of Rosé.

"This is for you."
