"Good?"
He nodded.
"That was the point."
"I'm confused."
He climbed out and walked around to my side, opening the door before holding his hand out to me.
"First dates got enough pressure on 'em already."
"What do you mean by pressure?"
He helped me out of the car and held my hand and locked the doors.
"Everybody is too busy trying to say the right thing instead of just having a good time."
His response made me smile. Jokah looked over at me with that same calm confidence written all over his face.
"Tonight, we just gone have fun."
For some reason that sounded perfect.
Inside, the place was loud in the best way. Neon lights flashed from every direction, music bounced off the walls, and machines chimed every few seconds while people laughed and argued over who was cheating. We started at the basketball game.
"Don't get embarrassed," I warned, picking up the first ball.
Jokah looked at me. "You talking awfully reckless."
I missed my first shot. Then my second and my third. He folded his arms and laughed.
"You done?"
I sucked my teeth.
"I'm warming up."
"Mmhmm." He grabbed a ball and dropped three in a row without breaking a sweat.
"Show-off."
"I learned from the best."
I looked around.
"Who?"
"Me," he smiled.
I rolled my eyes hard, while cracking up. "You get on my nerves."
"Already?"
"A little."
He laughed.
By the time we made it over to the air hockey table, I'd finally found my rhythm. I scored on him twice in a row, then pointed at the scoreboard with a grin.
