“Sir! We need you to step back. We are trying to save her life, and every second you hold us back from doing our job lessens the chance of her living through this!” The paramedic shouted, looking over his shoulder, but as soon as his eyes met Monroe’s, he moved out of the way.
The seriousness in Monroe’s facial expression was enough to speak for him. Sienna’s eyes were barely open, but before she saw him, she felt him near.
“Baby, I tri–”
“Shhh… I’m right here, baby.” Monroe said, needing Sienna to know he was there. “Hold on for me, baby. I’ma find who did this shit. I know you hurtin’ but I need you to live for me. I’ma meet you at the hospital.”
Sienna nodded.
Monroe stood straight and nodded at the paramedic, finally allowing them to do their job. But, not before he spoke to his woman. Not before he touched her, and told her to fight. They were connected, and everything he didn’t say was communicated through his eyes.
“Let’s go!” The EMT yelled at his partner as soon as they were secure on the back of the ambulance.
Monroe stood back and watched as they shut the door, but as he made his way back to his car, he was stopped mid-stride before he got a chance to open his door.
“Excuse me, Sir. I’m Detective Vaughn,” he said, reaching his hand forward.
Monroe didn’t speak. Just looked at him like shit was stuck to his face.
“I need you to answer some questions for me at the station? From the pictures inside of the house, I know you’re closely connected to Sienna. We want to figure out who did this asap, and maybe you can help us?” Detective Vaughn said. “Here’s my card–”
The detective was cut short as Monroe got into the car, and sped off without acknowledging anything that was said. He didn’t give a damn what he was talking about. His only focus was getting back to Sienna’s side.
Just as lightning cut through the sky at top speed, Monroe moved faster as he bobbed and weaved through traffic like Dom off Fast and The Furious.
“Call, G,” Monroe announced, his phone already connected to his car.
“Yo!” G answered on the first ring, his trigger finger on go.
“I need all hands on deck, bro. We gotta find out who shot my fuckin’ lady. She barely holdin’ on, G. I can see that shit in her eyes.”
“I gotchu’, son. I’ma hit you back once I get some leads.
“A’ight, later.”
“Later.”
As soon as Monroe ended the call, there was suddenly traffic on the highway, and no way around it. “Fuck!” Monroe exclaimed, ready to wreck some shit, but had to keep a leveled head. It wasn’t shit he could do about it, so he reached for his pre-rolled blunt and lit it immediately. He took a long pull from it and let it out slow trying to calm himself down.
Meanwhile, Macie finagled her way inside the hospital wearing scrubs like she worked there. She used her friends’ badge to get through all the doors necessary to get to Sienna. Macie moved through the hospital like she belonged there. Once inside the operating room, the sound of machines filled the space. Sienna lay motionless beneath the lights, her breathing shallow as Macie knelt down to her ear.
“Do you wanna live, or do you wanna die?” Macie asked simply.
Sienna’s eyes fluttered open, recognizing the voice. “What?”
“You heard what the fuck I said. Either you die today, or take this seventy-seven thousand dollars I’m prepared to give you, and get the fuck out of my son’s life. He’s too distracted with you around, and I need his head completely in the game. This is the only way,” Macie stated, getting straight to the point. There was no time to pussy foot around. Time was of the essence.
“We just want to be together. We love each other, Macie. Why… Why are you doing this?” Sienna struggled to speak. “He will resent you if you hurt me.”
“Bitch, he’ll never find out the truth about what happened today, or the conversation we’re having right now. Everyone assigned to your case, and all these doctors are on my fucking payroll. Now, I’m only gonna ask your ass one more time. If you don’t answer, I’m gonna kill your pretty ass right now, and my son will be told that the bullets that riddled your body hit a major vein, and they were unable to stop the bleeding. They did all they could do.”
It wasn’t the threat that scared Sienna most, it was the underlying promise in Macie’s voice that made her a believer. She’d gone through all this trouble to make her disappear, there was no doubt that she’d follow through one way or another.
“You have ten seconds to decide,” Macie surmised.
Tears slid down the corners of Sienna’s eyes nonstop, and suddenly the ache in her heart and soul trumped the physical pain spreading like wildfire through her body. Sienna didn’t understand how her life had gone from bliss to bullshit in the blink of an eye, but this shit was really happening, and at an accelerated rate. She didn’t wanna die, and she didn’t wanna leave Monroe; but in her mind she didn’t really have a choice.
“I’m pregnant, Macie. I planned on telling Monroe tonight when he came home,” Sienna revealed with a shaky voice. “Are you really that evil that you’d kill your grandchild?” she tried one last time to save her life, relationship, and unborn child.
