“Ilove you, Monroe Amir Black,” Sienna said softly, with her arms draped around Monroe’s neck. “Nothing or No One in this entire world will ever change that.”

“I love you too, Sienna. Nothin’ in this world is strong enough to disrupt what we have. We locked in for life, baby.” His forehead rested against hers. “One day I’ma make you my wife. Just give me a little time to stack my bread up. Then it’s a wrap,” Monroe promised, briefly boring passionately into Sienna’s chestnut-colored eyes, then sealed it with a kiss.

In Sienna’s eyes and heart, Monroe was the closest man to perfection that she’d get, and with all her heart, mind, and soul; she loved and believed Monroe. The way he spoke to her. How he handled her. The way he made her feel daily was nothing short of the queen she truly was.

“If you have somewhere to be, you better go now before you be late,” Sienna warned, already melting into her man.

Monroe chuckled lowly. “Hell yea,” Monroe agreed, knowing Sienna was speaking nothing but facts. “I’ll be back later on,” he promised, kissing the crease of her neck then lips again before reaching for the doorknob. She was his haven, and walking away was never easy.

“Okay,” Sienna replied, locking the door to their brownstone.

She gazed out of the side window beside the door as Monroe jogged down the steps, and slid into his black 2015 McLaren 570S.

“Lord, keep him safe,” she whispered a prayer, then walked away from the window, and into the living room.

It was a quarter after six when Monroe had left to make moves in the streets, but Sienna, on the other hand, had a juicy ribeye steak, perfectly seasoned fried potatoes and onions, with a fresh, loaded salad, and a cold glass of white grape cranberry juice waiting for her. Monroe had devoured his plate while she was in the shower, but she didn’t allow that to offset her night. She knew what Monroe did for a living, and she accepted the lifestyle because she loved him. Instead of turning on the TV, Sienna lit a candle, and grabbed the remote that controlled the surround sound. Aaliyah’s At Your Best played, and Sienna sang along as if she didn’t have one care in the world. She sat the remote back down on the coffee table, picked up her book, and made her way to the kitchen. She was halfway through Ashley Antoinette’s Love Burn Series.

“When I feel what I feel sometimes it’s hard to tell you so. You may not be in the mood to learn what you think you know…”

Sienna sang as she trailed into the kitchen, pressed one minute on the microwave, then grabbed the tongs to get some salad, and a fork and knife from the drawer. As she waited the last thirty seconds for the microwave to sound off. Grabbing her food from the microwave, she walked over to the kitchen table. As soon as she sat down, she started eating her steak first, then opened her book.

BOOM, BOOM!

The sound of the front door being kicked in scared Sienna so bad, she damn near jumped out of her skin. She quickly dropped what was in her hand. Everything inside her said run, but she had nowhere to go, and her body wouldn’t move. There was something about the footsteps rushing up the stairs and through her home that sent signals to her soul confirming this was it… this was the end of life as she knew it.

“Here she go!” A masked man yelled, stepping into the kitchen with his gun pulled, and aimed directly at Sienna.

“Get that Bitch! You heard what Macie said. Make this shit look like a messy ass murder scene!” Another masked man stated as he entered the kitchen, knocking shit over, and shooting aimlessly through the windows, and at the walls.

Sienna closed her eyes and prayed as bullets ripped through her body. Her life flashed before her eyes, as sound slowly faded, and her life flashed in her mind’s eye as she drifted from reality.

“Time to go. Now!” The third man yelled from the front door, hearing sirens nearing their location.

Just as birds fly north for the winter, the men quickly fled the scene on foot, leaving nothing behind. Around the corner, they all jumped into the getaway car, and got out of dodge, disappearing in the wind like ghosts.

On the other side of town, Monroe was shooting pool, waiting to serve one of his faithful buyers. His phone vibrated in his pocket just as he lined up his shot. When he looked down, he noticed it was one of his right-hand men, G. Pulling his phone from his pocket, Monroe answered on the third ring. “What’s good, son?”

“A’ye, Roe! You need to get home, man. I just got a call from Ock T-Loe sayin’ ya shit just got busted in, and shot up while ago.”

“Fuck-u-mean,” Roe quizzed, knowing he had to be hearing wrong.

“Get home, bruh. That’s all I can tell you. I’m two blocks away, and The Heat is every fuckin’ where. Real shit.”

“A’ight, bet,” Roe said, ending the call, his whole body turning stone cold.

Without a second thought, Monroe threw his pool stick across the room, and bolted out the pool hall like lightning. He hopped in his whip, then hopped back out in traffic with one person on his mind, Sienna. Future’s Colossal boomed through the car speakers as Monroe sped through traffic going 90 mph down a street that required 40 mph, but despite how fast he went, everything around him moved in slow motion. Deep in his soul, he pled with God for Sienna to be alright, but somehow before he got to her, he knew she’d slipped away. He’d tried having faith before, and his father had scalded him for it. “Hope for the best, but always expect the worst,” his late father always said.

Ten minutes later, Monroe arrived, quickly parking, and hopping out of his car at the sight of Sienna laid on a stretcher. His heart beat out of his chest the closer he got to her. Sirens sounded around him, crime scene tape was wrapped all around his house, and the police stood solid, trying their best to secure the scene.

“Sir! We need you to stand back,” the cops stated as Monroe fought through their resistance.

“A’yo, I’ma let yo’ ass know this once. This is my fuckin’ house yo’, and That’s my heart on that mu’fuckin’ stretcher. I can’t breathe without her. Now get the fuck out my way, so I can get to her,” Monroe barked seriously, prepared to risk it all in that moment for the love of his life.

“Be quick, Sir,” the policeman stated, signaling his colleagues to let Monroe through. “It took a lot to get her stable.

Monroe made it to Sienna’s side before the paramedic and EMT lifted her from the ground.
