And questioning his sanity.
Seonag heard Honeyopen the door. She had actually just laid down a moment before. She’d taken advantage of the time alone to release her bindings for just a bit. Her breasts welcomed the freedom and she almost cried as she bound them again before slipping her tunic back on and settling into bed.
What was he doing? He hadn’t entered the cabin yet.
“Are ye awake?” Honey’s smooth burr filled the room.
Seonag had to hide her sigh. His voice sidled down her spine to settle in her belly. The feelings he awakened in her were like none she’d ever felt before. It was good that they’d finally found Storm. If they stayed on this ship together in such close proximity she feared she might throw caution to the wind and reveal herself to Honey one night on a whim.
“Lad?” Honey asked, his voice a loud whisper.
“Aye.” Seonag answered, but she didn’t turn around.
Honey didn’t say anything, but she heard him enter the room and close the door softly behind him. She heard the rustle of linens as he drew down the throw on his bed and the slight creak as he sat down. He slid off his boots, a slight thump followed each as he set them beside the desk.
She had no experience in undressing a man, but she wanted nothing more than to do just that with Honey. To pull his tunic up and over his head, baring his broad chest for her eyes to feast upon. She bit her lip to keep herself from gasping at the devilish thought.
Her mother would most definitely not approve of the thoughts filling her mind. She heard him stand and knew he was removing his trews. Oh, how she wanted to turn around and watch him. He hadn’t blown out the lantern and she was sure his bronze skin would glow golden under the bobbing flame.
She audibly sighed at the image and clasped her hand over her mouth to silence herself.
“What was that, Sean?”
As if she could tell him what she was thinking. Though she really wanted to. She wanted this charade to be over. When Honey found out what she’d done, he would not be happy with her. Just one more day.
One more day and Storm would be in her sight and she could exact her revenge and end his life. She didn’t know how, but getting to him was the whole reason why she’d taken on this daft journey. She tried not to think about how little she’d thought the whole thing through.
Storm could overpower her in an instant. Of that she had no doubt. She would have to be smart in her moves. Allow him to get close enough, so she could sink a dagger into his black heart.
And that was only if she could get within close proximity of him. She wasn’t the only one that wanted him to meet his demise. Honey wanted to see him dead as well.
She knew he was more than capable of cutting Storm down. And the knowledge that he cared enough about her father to avenge his death warmed her heart to him even more.
Colin Harris was a good man. No matter the stories she’d heard about how ruthless he was. He’d shown her nothing but kindness since she’d first met him. Well, maybe not the very first time—when she took him away from the wench that he was more than likely going to bed.
Seonag was surprised at the stab of jealousy that she felt at the thought of Honey sleeping with another woman.
She wanted to be that woman. The ship rocked over the waves, lulling her into a sense of serenity. That and knowing that Honey was in the bed next to her.
Apparently giving up on them having any further conversation, he snuffed the lantern and enveloped them in darkness. She waited for her eyes to adjust, forms slowly taking shape and listened to Honey’s breathing as she did every night when they went to bed.
That night she did fall into a deep sleep. She dreamt of slipping naked between the sheets of Honey’s bed, revealing her true identity to him. In her dream he wasn’t angry with her. He blessed her with a smile so genuine, it melted her heart. He drew her into his chest, and their skin met, heat exploding between them.
When she woke in the morning, her linens were damp with sweat. She wanted to linger and think about the dreams she’d had all night long. But now wasn’t the time.
She turned and glanced at Honey’s bed.
It was empty.
For the first time, he had awakened before her and had already dressed and left. She sat up and stretched her arms. Then hurried and dressed.
Today was going to be a great day.
She splashed water on her face, then quickly replaited her hair and tucked it under her cap. Then she set off to find Honey and see how close they were to the bastard Storm.
Chapter Twelve
As Seonag rushedto the upper deck she stopped short. All the crew was lined up at the ship’s rail, staring out over the water. She stood on her tiptoes trying to see over their shoulders but she was too short and could only see their backs.
