She surveyed the men and found where Peggy was standing and made her way over to the man.
“What’s going on?” She asked as she tapped him on the shoulder.
Peggy turned around and addressed her. “Ah, Needle. Good morn! At long last our chase has come to an end. We’ve caught up toHades Revenge.” He stepped aside so she could see what all the men were looking at.
Her heart skipped a beat. There before her eyes was her father’s pride and joy. The ship that he lost his life over.Hades Revenge.
In her mind’s eye she could see her father at the helm, beaming a huge smile to her as she waved from the shore.
She turned back to Peggy. “What happens now?”
“Cap’n Honey has put out a call to her captain. Requested a meeting.”
A meeting. Why? “I thought he wanted the man dead?”
“Aye, he does. But Cap’n is a man of honor. Even to those that aren’t deserving of it. He’ll invite him to a conversation to discuss the events that led to the coup.”
Seonag was confused. Why give him the chance to talk his way out of his past sins? She and Honey both knew he did what he did for greed. Storm wanted to be captain of his own crew and he wanted the booty that her father was transporting.
The easiest way was to turn his crew against him and lead a coup. And that was exactly what he did. She was sure of it. Her father had trusted his crew with all his being, but apparently Storm had offered them something they couldn’t refuse. Was it the coin her father was transporting? Most likely. Money always talked.
Looking at all of Honey’s crew lined up, she just realized they all had their hands on the hilts of their swords. It was good to know that Honey didn’t overly trust Storm. Trust would get him nowhere with the heathen. The only thing the bastard cared about was himself.
“Here.” Peggy pushed something cold and hard into her hand.
Seonag looked down at the dagger Peggy gave her. The hilt appeared to be silver with intricate vines carved into the handle.
“I know ye dinna have a sword of yer own. Carry that with ye at all times. Ye never know when it will come in use.”
Seonag nodded. “Thank ye.” She tested the weight of the dagger in her hand. Shifting it from one to the other, the hilt cool in her palm. The blade buffed to a shine. Just looking at it, she could tell it was sharpened to a fine edge.
This blade.
This is what she could use to sink into Storm’s heart.
After he’d putout the call for a meeting to Storm’s quartermaster, Colin waited calmly along with his crew for Storm to show his pathetic face.
Peggy had done an excellent job trackingHades Revengethroughout the night. The maneuvers with which Storm had tried to outrunThe Hellawere to no avail. Now they waited to see if he would take Colin up on his offer to meet.
Colin didn’t expect the bilge-sucking captain to actually accept his offer, but following his own creed, he had to put it out there.
If Storm refused it, that was on him, but at least Colin knew that he gave the cretin a choice before he allowed his crew to attack and board the ship to take it over.
Colin paced behind his men, his hands clasped behind his back as he walked back and forth, his sword at his side.
He noted Sean had made his way up to the deck and joined the rest of his crew. The lad had been in such a deep sleep when Colin had woken up that he hadn’t had the heart to disturb him. And Colin refused to acknowledge how long he’d sat in his bed and watched the lad doze.
Hours passed and still Storm didn’t show. Colin was beginning to lose his patience when a whistle sounded catching his attention.
He rushed to the rails and looked over at the other ship. The crew was abuzz with activity, which was more than they’d done in the hours since Colin first requested the meeting.
“Cap’n Harris,” an unknown voice called out to him, bouncing over the water.
Colin planted his boots on the deck and crossed his arms as he waited for the man to continue.
After an unnecessarily long pause, he finally spoke again. “Cap’n Storm will be here momentarily. He apologizes for keeping ye and yer men waiting.” The snide smile the man gave told Colin he was lying, but he let it pass.
He just needed the bastard to show his face so Colin could state his intentions.
