I run my hand over my face. I slept through the entire day when he needed me. How did I let that happen?

“I can get you a bowl if you’re feeling up to it.”

“You made soup?”

She nods.

“I don’t think I’m ready for food. But I need to get up and get things done.”

“You just need to rest,” she says next to me, and once again, pushes me back to sit.

“And here I thought you liked when I was in control” are the words that fall from my lips.

Her eyes meet mine, and she smirks. “Not today.”

I reach for her, but she smacks my hand away.

“Clearly, you’re feeling better.”

“I am. But like I said, I have things to do.”

“You really don’t. I already finished washing Grey’s sheets and remade his bed and then sanitized the house. I made soup, and I even have fresh sheets ready for your bed when you do get up, which is not right this minute. I cleaned as I normally do too.”

She keeps listing the things she did today, but it all starts to blur. It’s been so long since I had someone take care of me the way she has today. The way she clearly took care of Grey. It’s obvious that once she told me she was here, my body shut down.

I trust Greer more than I want to. I feel for Greer more than I want to. We might be faking the dating storyline, but the feelings I’m developing for Greer are very real.

“Thank you,” I say as soon as she stops talking. “I’m happy that you’re here.”

This time, she doesn’t swat my hand away when I reach for it.

“If I get sick, you better take care of me,” she says. “After all, I did clean out Grey’s vomit bucket, sooooo you don’t get a choice.”

I laugh and nod. “It’s a deal.”

“Good.”

She leans forward and grabs the book she’d been reading.

“This is really good,” she says, looking over the cover and then at the back. Her hand runs over the words. “I like this finish. It’s so soft. If all books had this, I’d be broke.”

“I like it too.”

“Before I bought my house, the Realtor told me that it was vacant for a while. Did that inspire this series?”

I reach for the book, smiling at my own work. No matter how many times I look at them, anytime I see my books in print, I can’t help but be happy and thankful how some parts of my life worked out exactly how I wanted.

“Yep. After the first month went by and the house didn’t sell, I wondered why, and somewhere that morphed into this series.”

“I like how you have this whole town secret for the house that’s pieced together in each couple’s books. How many books will I have to read before I find out the truth behind this mysterious house?”

I smirk. “Greer Harrison, are you telling me that you’ve read the first four books in this series?”

She smiles with pride and nods once. “I sure am. I’m a secret fan.”

“I had no idea.”

She turns to look at me, both our heads resting back on the headboard.
