I led him to my kitchen after inviting him inside. “What would you like to drink? I’ve got water, wine, beer, milk, the usual.”
“A beer is great, thanks.”
I grabbed two from the fridge and popped off the tops with the opener magnet I kept on the fridge.
Baylor took a long pull from his beer, and I watched the liquid move down his muscular throat. I shifted in my seat.
Damn did everything this man do turn me on?
“So did you move here from the city? It looks great in here. The company that bought it did a nice job fixing it up.”
“Yes, and yes, they did. I was impressed after seeing some of the before pictures. It’s not big but it’s perfect for me.”
“Do you miss the city?”
“Yes and no. I miss my family, my sister the most. But I love it here. I’m hoping she’ll come join me but she’s young and having fun.”
“I get that. I’ve lived here my whole life. It’s all I’ve ever known. I’m not sure I’d survive in the city.”
“A true mountain man, hmm?” I finished off my beer, the alcohol buzzing through my blood stream. It was making me bolder.
“That I am. Just me and my cat against the world.” He chuckled before finishing his beer.
“Your cat is the best.”
Baylor grinned. “He picks good company, too.”
My stomach spun in five different directions. Was he flirting with me?
“Would you like to stay for another drink? Maybe dinner?” I asked, boldened by the beer.
“I’d love to.”
CHAPTER FOUR
Baylor
Over the nextcouple of hours, we drank a few more beers, grilled chicken and made a light pasta salad and grilled asparagus on the side. I ran back to my place and grabbed another six pack of drinks and the fixings for the pasta salad before we started cooking.
Usually I didn’t care for the company of people, having been on my own for so long now that it was strange to actually enjoy another person’s company. But with her I did. Despite the few beers coursing through my system.
“So you grew up here?” Twila asked as we sat outside after dinner. She’d made us both a cup of chamomile tea, explaining how she made it every night as part of her nightly routine. I liked being a part of it.
Usually I’d down a few more beers but maybe it was a good thing to replace them with a cup of tea instead. “Yep. Born and raised. I’m an only child. Spent a lot of time on my own. My parents worked a lot so often I had babysitters after school, went to summer camp, that sort of thing, until I was old enough tobe alone. When I graduated high school, they left for the city, but I didn’t want to go. I liked it here. So I got a degree in IT and bought the cabin, adopted Twix, and here we are. I have a few buddies in town I meet up with from time to time from high school.” I paused for a moment. “Guess I sound pretty dull.” I chuckled.
“No, I don't think so. I mean you own Twix, that right there gives you like a thousand bonus points.” Twila smiled, her cheeks flushed.
I held onto her gaze, my imagination running wild about what it would be like to kiss her, touch her, taste her, hold her…
I moved in my seat, my cock suddenly making itself very well known, pressing hard against my shorts.
“Ha, Twix is turning out to be a great wingman.” I said. “I never would’ve thought.”
Twila leaned in closer and my heart tripled in speed. “What else do you like to do?”
“I like my coffee black, my morning news, and catching up on the current events every morning. Need to know what’s going on.”
“It’s important.” Twila agreed.
