Smiling at the baby, Bliss said, “Thanks, Sissy. I’m late. I have to drop her off with Mom so I can make it to the cooking class on time.”
“You’ll be fine,” Blake told her, hanging the diaper bag on Bliss’ shoulder. “Duke will wait to start. It’s just us.”
“Jace still coming?” I asked.
Bliss shrugged. “He said he was. If he doesn’t, I’m not staying.”
“Bliss!” Blake shouted. “You can’t leave.”
“Oh, I can. And I will. I’m not that chick who hangs out with a bunch of couples.”
“First the fuck of all, don’t think of it as a couples thing. No one is bringing a boo.” She winced, meeting my gaze. “Sorry.”
“I’m not your boo?” I asked, raising a challenging brow.I’m sick of this shit. I considered myself a patient man. I rarely lost my temper, I didn’t yell, and I’d never disrespected a woman. But this woman—mywoman—was gone learn today. We were having this conversation, and I didn’t care if Bliss was there to hear.
“Lennox, you know I talk too much.” Blake shrugged. “I didn’t mean it that way.”
I folded my arms over my chest and pinned her with a glare. “No, I heard you loud and clear.”
“Um.” Bliss scratched her forehead. “I’m just going to leave now. Bye.”
“Wait,” Blake said. “We should just walk out together. If you feel better, we can take you to Mom and Dad’s and you can ride with us in case Jace doesn’t show.”
“Nice try,” I interjected.
Bliss sighed. “This is awkward.”
“Jace will show because he’s not an asshole,” I assured Bliss.
“You’re right,” Bliss said. “We’ve been friends for years. He’ll be there, and I’ll see you both later.”
Blake grabbed the diaper bag. “I’ll walk you out.”
I picked up the baby carrier. “I’llwalk her out.” Then, I gently took the bag from Blake. “And I’m coming back to finish this.”
Bliss waved. “Bye, Sissy.”
Following Bliss to the car, I strapped the baby in. Once the car seat was secure, I opened the driver’s side door for her. “See you in a little bit.”
“Don’t be mad,” Bliss said. “She does talk too damn much.”
I laughed. “She’ll be alright.”
“Just so you know…she really does care.”
“I know.” I watched her pull out of the driveway and waited until she sped off before I walked back into the house.
Blake was sitting at the breakfast bar, her legs crossed and a pretty frown on her face. “Look, Lennox, you—”
“No, you listen.” I walked over to her and spun the chair around. “What the hell do you think is happening between us?”
“We’re getting to know each other,” she said.
“That’s it?”
Blake opened her mouth to speak, then closed it. I suspected it was because she knew she was on some bullshit. She stood and tried to walk away, but I pulled her back to me and caged her in so she couldn’t leave.
“Tell me, Blake. What is it?”
