Short of sitting in my car and waiting, I can’t see anything else happening. With a fizz of excitement, I get out of my car, and after locking it, I skip across the parking lot and into the unit.
I don’t get far, with Tyler pouncing on me, his lips claiming mine in a demanding kiss. My purse drops from my fingers and I wrap my arms around him, desperate to be close after this morning’s emotional rollercoaster.
Eventually, we come up for air, giving me a chance to check out the place that Tyler calls home. It’s basic and tends toward the dank and dark side of interior design. Breeze block walls painted light gray, coupled with vertical blinds that have been through the wars, and my heart falls.
Suddenly, the idea of some afternoon delight isn’t so delightful. Only then do I note the size of the bed. The linens are crisp and white, the pillows fluffy, but this isn’t all. It’s enormous as befits a man of Tyler’s size, making a welcome change from the confines of my bed in the trailer.
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve come close to clipping my head on the dresser next to the bed. Because of the tight quarters, Tyler often opened the window over the bed to stop his head from going through it when he filled me with his glorious length.
“Oooh, I’ve just thought of something!” I don’t bother telling Tyler what it is, rather making a beeline for the only other door in the room. Sure enough, it reveals a small bathroom, although nowhere near as small as the one in my Silver Bullet. “Fantastic! I can have a shower without bashing my elbows!”
A peek out into the room shows Tyler has shut the front door and is on his way to join me, ditching his clothes along the way. “And I can join you!”
As I collapse in a heap on the bed next to Tyler, I have to marvel at just how much fun that shower had been. It would have been even more fun if we hadn’t had to worry about Tyler’s potential concussion.
Despite the distractions of him running large, soapy hands all over my body, I’d done my best to check if his pupils were dilated. But the light in the bathroom being what it was, it hadn’t been possible.
“Tyler, I just want to check your eyes.”
He looks at me in confusion, his hand pausing on its way to give me the afternoon delight I’ve so been looking forward to. “My eyes? Are you sure that’s the bit you’re most interested in?”
A slight nudge from his hip, and I’m in no doubt there’s another part of him that’s ready for me to explore it.
“All in good time. Just give me a minute.” A quick shimmy down the bed and I grab my purse off the floor. I’ve got my phone in my hand before Tyler comes to his senses.
“No photos!”
Now it’s my turn to be confused, shaking my head. “Um, of course not. I want to use the flashlight on my phone to see if your pupils are dilated.” The briefest flash and I’m relieved to see they’re reacting normally.
“You’re good. I don’t need to hold back.” I follow this up by slamming my phone down on the battered nightstand, rolling over and straddling him.
Tyler responds to my “Show me what you’ve got, big boy!” with delighted laughter, with him as eager to show me what he’s got as I am to see it.
It’s then everything comes to a grinding halt.
Tyler’s thumbs, buried deep in my curls, are doing wonderful things to my bud, when he suddenly stops. “Damn, I’ve just realized I don’t have any condoms here.”
And even though it had once been a motel, apparently there’s no longer a condom dispensing machine tucked away in some dark corner.
While it warms me, he’s not prepared because it shows this isn’t his usual behavior. I’m also frustrated beyond belief.
TYLER
It might be down to my recently smashing my forehead into a floorboard, but it takes longer than it should for me to put things together. She’d just come out of a long-term relationship, and I haven’t dated in months. The main reason I’d insisted we use protection was to avoid an unwanted pregnancy.
With Lily unable to conceive, that’s no longer a worry. And I know she’d told me the truth about that as there’d be no missing the desolation in her eyes. Learning she wasn’t able to have kids had obviously devastated her.
There wasn’t a chance she’d use it to trap a guy into fatherhood. My mind made up; I don’t allow myself to dwell on it any longer.
“You know, we don’t have to.”
Lily’s disappointment throws me. Wasn’t she the one who said we didn’t need to bother? Hadn’t she said there was no need? Why the sudden change of mind? Once more, I take longer than I usually would to catch up.
Sheesh, while she says I’m not suffering from concussion, I’m sure as hell not firing on all cylinders. “Not that we shouldn’t, you know. No, I was thinking we could go bareback.”
Much as it would be easier to spell it out that we can dispense with protection because of her infertility, I don’t want to go there. That inability on her part hurts her enough as it is, without my bringing attention to it.
While her smile is slow to start, it soon widens, exactly like the petals of the flower I’m about to claim, and without a rubber getting in the way, either.
