“Shouldn’t you be out on patrol with Beta group?” I fire back. He physically flinches as if I hit him.
“You’re not Alpha yet, pup,” he states, looking me in the eye, borderline challenging me before he turns and stalks off.
Once he’s out of my sight, I walk over to Mags’ desk and immediately activate her side drawer to slip out the envelope with my name on it. Pulling out the report, I quickly glance over the document. The cover sheet says, “Here’s the latest. We will talk later. Get back to class and pass this on when you get home.” Dad signed it Alpha.Figures.Looking at the document, my heart skips a beat as I see there’s been a sighting of Zeke in the Ever Woods. This was dated last night.Thank the Fates he’s alive.I sigh in relief knowing he’s at least alive, and I continue to read. According to the description, he looked sick and dirty yet he didn’t seem to acknowledge the patrol that found him. Instead he looked like he was in a daze but took off quickly when they tried to approach and they lost him in the woods.
Fuck.
Dropping the documents, I run my fingers through my thick hair and groan in frustration as I lean against the desk. The desk shifts under my weight, and I quickly go to straighten up the mess I’ve made when I see something out of place. Mags normally has printed up documents on her desk that she hands my father since that’s his preference, but there’s a scrap of discolored notebook paper sticking out between the papers.
Before I can reach for it, my wolf suddenly rises to the surface in an agitated state. What the fuck?A restless feeling comes over him as I try to calm him down. But it increases to the point he starts pacing with the occasional whining as if he’s in pain. Before I can really start to worry though, the feelings of turmoil eases off and he quietly lays back down, leaving me slightly confused. What just happened? Shaking off the experience, I pull out the sheet, I see what looks like a checklist until I take a closer look. The scrap paperwork is about Rez, but I don’t understand. If it was an official document it would be typed up and everyone would know about it. The more I read, the more it seems this wasn't sanctioned at all.

What the fuck am I reading and who wrote it? My guess is that it’s Capt. Brooks. The chicken scratch looks like his, but the only way to be sure is to get a warlock to cast some sort of spell on the paper to see if they can get a magical imprint off of it. Questions start tumbling around in my head as to what this means. Who is Lyrical? How did she even get close to my kitten to take her blood? Why was her blood taken and for what purposes? Does Rez know about this being done to her? My own blood starts to boil as I try to think of who this information could have been for. It couldn’t be for my father, this isn’t information he would even need to know.
Red crosses my vision as I clench my fist and the crinkling of paper brings my attention back down to the paper in my hands. Fuck, I can’t destroy the evidence. Letting out a shaky breath, I fold the paper and slide it into my wallet. I need to talk to one of the guys or Dad about this. One thing’s for sure, I now have another reason to watch Brooks like a hawk.
Rez
Who’s cheerios did I piss on in a prior life? A Wraith? I was attacked by a Wraith and no one knows why. The only conclusion I can come up with is that Karma is out to get me. Which I’ve been telling Dr. Steinbeck and Levi for the past thirty minutes.
“It’s not Karma, Ms. Taylor, I’m sure of that. We will find out the reason soon enough. The Wraith, also known as Mr. Thacker, has been taken to interrogation and is being treated there. We believe he might be under a spell which is another reason why I’m treating you here in the boy’s apartment rather than the clinic. I didn’t want you to feel uncomfortable knowing your attacker was close by,” he explains, patting my hand.
Most of the time when I see Dr. Steinbeck, he’s full of energy and jovial to the point of me wanting to strangle him because he’s so stinking happy. Today though, he looks worn out and haggard as if he’s carrying the whole world on his shoulders. If I knew him better, I would ask if he was okay and if I could help, but instead I give him a weak smile and say thanks.
“Of course. The medicine I gave you earlier will make you tired, so take it easy for the rest of the day and get plenty of sleep. Your energy will build back up and you should be good as new by tomorrow. Should I set up a standing appointment for you to see me?” Dr. Steinbeck jokes, giving me a small smile that doesn’t reach his eyes. “I seem to see you more than my staff.”
“Ha. Ha. Ha. Very funny, Doc. Just let me know when you get an office set up for me so I know where to park my butt,” I retort with a wink. He throws his head back and laughs, reminding me of Ryker for a moment as his face lights up showing his usual self. He shakes his head as he packs up his stethoscope, gives Levi a nod, and waves before walking out of the guy's apartment.
If there’s one thing I hate, it’s awkward silences, and that’s what I find when I look up and spot Levi sitting across from me in his lounger.
“I finally met up with Lilith,” Levi admits. His words are barely a whisper.
“Really?” My interest is piqued, I slightly lean forward, giving him my attention. With everything that’s been going on, I had forgotten that Levi said he was going to look into what happened during my ritual. I’m surprised that after everything that went down between us he even decided to look into it for me. Especially since I told him to fuck off. I’m not worth the fucking trouble anymore. “What did you find out?”
Levi meets my eyes and his shoulders drop as he lets out a long sigh. “I’m afraid it’s not what you were hoping for. She was agitated when I confronted her, and she was quick to deny that you knew what you were talking about when it came to the ingredients.”
“What?” My jaw drops. “Of course that Prada-wearing cow would say that,” I mumble as I pull my knees into my chest and rest my chin on them.
“Rez,” Levi chuckles and the dimple in his cheek pops out, making me melt slightly. “It’s okay, I had your back against her ire. I think me standing up to her pushed her over the edge, because it was revealed that she’s possessed.”
I numbly blink a few times as I see Levi’s mouth continue to move. “Wait. Lilith is possessed? How the fuck did that happen?”
He shakes his head with a concerned expression. “We don’t know much, but the Council is looking into finding out how, when, and why? I just thought it would be better that you found out from me.”
