‘Pft. Like they scare me. I saw Mr. Whipple try to give himself a circumcision with a beer bottle one time. Hmm, now that I think about it, maybe he was just fucking the bottle. Either way, a cut dick was the result, and that was scary as hell,’Lynx deadpans.
“We like to keep to ourselves, so our numbers aren’t known. But we decided to help Rez here because her pain was some potent shit. You are a surprise though. Didn’t Storm Shifters die out with the Horseman and your purpose?” Sarah sneers.
Lynx lunges at the cage, which makes holding his hand awkward, and snarls at Sarah as she just gives him a knowing smirk.
Stepping in front of him to obstruct his view, I try to soothe him.‘Lynx! Hey, calm down. Do you want to tell me about it because there’s obviously bad blood between you two. Do you...do youknowDesar?’Worry seeps into my voice, and I must admit, a little insecurity. I don’t know much about Lynx before he came into my life for obvious reasons now. But maybe there’s something between them.
Lynx, picking up on my inner ramblings, quickly swings his gaze my way.
‘Not in the way I know you, Rezzi. But I know of her species and let’s just say, we aren’t besties,’Lynx assures me and peers over my shoulder once again.
Okay then. There’s definitely bad blood between the two. Great!
Turning around, I give Sarah a can-we-get-back-on-track look. “Obviously there’s some drama between you guys, but can we get back to this ‘curse?’ That seems kinda important here,” I say, motioning her to elaborate on that part of the story.
“Oh, yeah. Apparently your and the Storm Shifter’s connection has been cursed by something. By the look of the matching necklaces you both wear, I would say it was something that touched your neck.” She points to the scar that rests just above my collar. Sparing a quick look at Lynx, I see the same sparkling silver around his tan skin. “That’s why it took Destiney a little longer to strengthen it. I bet you’ve also been feeling drained and constantly want sleep, huh?” she notes without waiting for a response. “You’re now connected, but it’s draining on our power to keep you here since it’s still weak. It might take you a few nights to gather up the ability to travel through your connection. But at least it’s there if you want it.” She gives Lynx a disgusted look like she can’t imagine why I would consider doing any of that.
Lynx pulls me around to face him once again. “Don’t mind the Grumpy Care Bear over there, Rezzi, but I need to tell you th—”
“I can’t hold this connection any longer, guys,” Sarah warns, cutting off what he’s about to say.
“It’s okay, Lynx,” I reach up to run my hand down the side of his face. “Just knowing you’re alive is good enough for me until I find you…because I will. I know the Rebels have you, right?” He nods and I continue on since I know I’m running out of time. “Do you know where you are?”
A sad smile flits across his face as he shakes his head before he fades away from sight, but it’s the sadness in his eyes that stays with me when I wake.

WATER WORKS
JP
Watching Rez while she’s in this dreamscape is kinda unnerving, especially with Desar having regular seizures. I’m about to bolt out of here and get help. But after a few moments, I start to pick up vague thoughts of happiness and relief from Rez. Hopefully that means it’s true and Lynx isn’t dead.
My heart rate picks up as I see tears running down Rez’s cheeks, and I quickly wipe them away, debating if I should do anything when I see her smile.
Ahh! Happy tears.
It’s alarming how before I could pick up her thoughts clear as day, but while she’s in this dream state, it’s almost like static and I’m only getting bits and pieces of it. My nerves are a wreck as I sit and watch what seems to be an emotional rollercoaster until Rez opens her beautiful gray eyes and smiles up at me.
“JP! He’s alive,” she exclaims, throwing herself into my arms. “The Rebels do have him, but Lynx is alive! I don’t know where he’s at, but he’s alive and looking healthy.” I squeeze her tight as relief floods through me. One less worry, at least for her. I know I can’t do much for ma chérie, but I’m willing to be what she needs, and at this moment, I’m waiting for her to lead.
“Like I said before, at least you have the connection now, if you want to use it,” Desar says, standing up and shaking out her limbs. Rez pulls away from me and glances up with a smile.
“Thank you. I don’t know the beef you guys have and don’t want to know right now. But thank you,” she says, wiping the tears free falling from her.
“Come, let me feed and pamper you. Moni is out for the night. She wanted to do something with that Chester guy and Gus.” I can’t help but let a little disdain leak out, and from the cocky smirk Rez gives me, it doesn’t go unnoticed. I just haven’t met the guy yet and it’s killing me, even Levi and Ryker have met him. Ryker, the little shit, likes to remind me every once in a while through text. I’m still on the fence about wanting to know about their relationship but adamantly not wanting to know more about this Chester guy. It’s like if I don’t know, then it doesn’t happen, right? Like an ostrich putting his head in the sand, a phrase I never understood until today.
“I would love that, JP, thanks,” she says as I help her stand up and head to the door. She gives Desar a tiny wave over her shoulder on our way out.
Rez
As soon as we get home, I pounce on Knots and start filling him in on my experience with Desar while JP runs off to the kitchen. Knots listens intently and at the end, just smiles and says my favorite words ever, “I told you so.” Playfully, I hit him and it turns into a tickle fight until JP calls us for dinner.
Afterwards, Knots says he has Door Knight duties and wants to update the network on Lynx, but after observing JP during dinner, I’m betting he has something to do with it. Especially since he mentioned he wanted to spoil me tonight. Honestly, I’m looking forward to a little JP time. Don’t get me wrong, I’m getting plenty of affection with Knots being so attentive to my needs. He even allowed JP to crash in my bed with us the other night, but I just miss my cocksure man.
From the heated looks he’s shooting my way, he’s easily reading my mind and knows what I want. Hell, even a blind man could read the looks I’m giving. Knowing Lynx is alive and well, for the most part, puts me in the best mood ever. Hope is alive again in my soul and I feel like living.
“JP? Where the hell are you?” I yell from Moni’s hall. The man in question asks me to grab two warm towels for him, and then just disappears once I step out of the laundry room. Walking into the living room, I see what looks like sparkling silver water droplets leading to my bedroom.
