Ah, shit.

I knew I should have come up with names for them. But at the time when it first came up, I wasn’t about to go around the room and name my animals like the guys were naming their cocks. It just didn’t feel right, and now I’m standing here next to a woman that speaks to all of us. How in the hell am I going to tell her that I don’t have a name for them?

She must read my dilemma all over my face because she gasps. “Oh. My God! They don’t have names?” She shrieks, and I cower a little bit.

I open my mouth to make some kind of excuse, but she throws her hand over my mouth, silencing me.

“No! I don’t want to hear it. This has to be some form of animal abuse. And I can’t have you disrespecting them.” I’m momentarily caught off guard with that little tidbit as she looks around before grabbing my hand and leading me out of the sanctuary’s door.

ChapterTwenty-Two

POLLY WANTS A CRACKER?

Rez

How could they not have names? Who does that?

It’s like owning a pet and just calling it ‘dog’ or ‘cat.’ Oh my God, he might as well call them ‘it!’ He needs to correct this mistake ASAP, and I’m definitely here to help. All animals, even shifters, need some loving too. Taking a peek at him as we walk, those pesky butterflies get on a tilt-a-whirl, and heat rushes to my cheeks when he looks down and catches me checking him out. I can’t help it though. He’s definitely a hot specimen to look at.

He has a rugged look to him that makes me want to roll over and let him do naughty things to me. Out of the group, he and Ryker are the only ones that aren’t in deep shit with me. Yes, I’m sure they were still put up to the task, but they didn’t act on it, and that’s the only reason why I am more lenient with Knox now. I told him at the beach that I believe actions speak louder than words, and so far, he’s living up to that.

My gut isn’t telling me to watch out or be weary of him, if anything I have this pull to be around him. Especially knowing he has this connection with animals like it seems I do in some aspects. I need to get to know him better.

Pulling him along with me until I reach the edge of the forest, I finally drop his hand and spin around to face him. I’m momentarily frozen as I take in his looks. Knox really is a handsome guy, in that rugged type of way. His piercing green eyes have a glimmer of mischief when they normally give off a ‘fuck you’ vibe. His stubble only highlights his angular jaw and brings my attention back to those kissable lips.

Wait. What the fuck am I doing? Oh yeah, getting down to naming his animals. Concentrate, Rez.

Placing my hands on my hips, I give him the I’m-not-playing face. At least I’m trying to, but based on the way he's biting his bottom lip to stop himself from laughing, I guess I’m failing miserably.

“Yes, kitten?” Knox finally speaks, and his voice sends a shiver down my spine despite me wearing sweats.

Giving up the authoritative stance, I ignore the nickname and address what we came out here for.

“So, how do you want to do this? Want me to just throw out names and you tell me if they like it?” I ponder and catch Knox giving me a shrug.

Well buddy, you could still help me out here.

“Fine! First off, tell me about your wolf. Do you guys share the same mind set? Is he his own person? Is he more serious? Friendly? An asshole? Or is he just like you?” I fire questions off just trying to get anything from my tight-lipped shifter.

He leans up against a tree and tries to answer the best he can. “I’m aware when I shift so it’s not just my animal that’s there. I guess you can say he’s more of a goofball, yet he doesn’t like most people,” he growls out like he’s annoyed at his wolf. If the wolf hates everyone then I guess I got lucky that he didn’t eat me in Familiars Class.

Wait a minute.

Leaning into Knox, I get sick pleasure as his eyes go wide. “Does this mean he likes me? He didn’t tear me apart in class.” I smile and Knox rolls his eyes and crosses his arms.

“Maybe,” he grounds out.

Jumping up and down, I do a little booty shake saying, “Aww yeah!” After finishing my little victory dance I turn and catch Knox staring at my ass. “I promise it looks better in tighter clothes,” I say, smirking.

“Oh believe me, I know,” he replies with his own smirk.

I go to smack his hard peck when another thought hits me.Oh my gosh. Familiars Class.Lynx mentioned that he could have sworn the wolf had heard us. “Knox!”

“Yes,” he quirks an eyebrow at me.

“You said that you’re aware when your wolf takes over and you can hear other animals with high intelligence, so does that mean you heard Lynx and I talking?” I can’t keep the excitement out of my voice and I start bouncing on the balls of my feet.

He purses his lips as he places his hands on my shoulders to keep me from bouncing like the energizer bunny until I calm down. “Yeah. At first I had no idea what I was hearing. I thought there was another shifter in the room until I focused on you and Lynx. Of course, I didn’t know that he was more than a Familiar then.”
