“Hey, Fluffers!” I coo, rubbing him under his chin.

“I bet that just kills Knox,” Ryker chuckles.

I throw a smile over my shoulder, “Why do you think I do it?”

Ryker throws his head back and lets out a boisterous laugh as Fluffers goes on alert.

“Shit,” I whisper and his laughter dies down.

Ryker leans into me to whisper into my ear while he turns out the light.

“Get on my back for now, we can move faster if we need to run. It will also allow us to be quieter if there’s an enemy up ahead.” He explains it in a kind way so I won’t rip his head off, which I appreciate.

He guides me onto his back before he takes off after Fluffers. It’s nice that the guys trust me enough to take me seriously, but don’t I have a best friend that I trust more than myself? My mind wanders back to my dream and the man that starred in it.Why can’t I remember his name?An unusual burn around my throat has me desperately swallowing to disperse it.Why is the base of my throat burning all of a sudden?

We slow down as we approach a corner and see a glow and shadows projecting across the wall.

My heart races as Fluffers lets out a low warning growl and the shadows halt.

“Ma chérie, are you growling at me?”

“JP?” I call out, holding my breath.

The light moves further along and casts an eerie blue light into the open cavern before us, but we stay hidden in one of the dark tunnels. The cavern is two stories high, and from where I’m hiding I count five tunnels, but that’s not counting the ones I can’t see, if there are some.

“In the flesh and I have a few stow-a-ways,” he admits, walking out and pointing behind him.

Zeke and Levi follow him out, and I jump off of Ryker’s back, running out into the cavern, not even worrying about my earlier suspicions. Right now I just needed to make sure they were okay. Then we can regroup and get the fuck out of here before something bad happens.

I run into JP’s arms and he pulls me against him before kissing me. “Thank the Fates you’re safe,” he smiles down at me.

Zeke plucks me out of JP’s hands and spins me around before giving me a deep kiss and a hug. “I was worried about you when Anwen sent us after you,” he admits.

“Wait, Anwen sent you?” I question him, my eyes going wide. But it’s Levi that answers.

“Yes, she pulled us before we could run into the fray at the school and brought us to come find you.”

Levi, looking disheveled and covered in mud, has never looked sexier or more lost in his life. I step up to him and wrap my arms around him and whisper into his ear, “I attacked and sent your fake fiancé bitch flying through the air with magic today, and I’m super proud of it.”

I pull back far enough to look at his face and he’s beaming. “Fantastic,” he whispers before kissing me. “Congratulations.”

“What fray at the school are you talking about?” Ryker asks, pulling at his hair.

“Oh, yeah. The Rebels are attacking the school,” Zeke says nonchalantly, kicking a rock on the ground.

Are you kidding me? He should have led with that first. Is that the bad thing I’ve been feeling?

JP looks at me sharply. “You’ve got another feeling? Like at the Hub?”

I nod but before I can explain, we hear voices echoing down the tunnels.

“Quick, extinguish the light,” Ryker says, and Levi flicks his wrist to extinguish his blue lights, leaving us cast in darkness.

Glowing lights slowly start moving down the tunnels like JP’s did earlier, but this time I count six.

“We've got you surrounded now,” someone cackles and laughter follows.

The lights get closer, and I see the first hooded figure with glowing red eyes.Fuck!
