JP and I both share a look, “Um…I think we will just fill you in tonight, sis,” JP answers.

Moni

I wish I had time to grill JP and Rez, but I really want to make it to class on time. It turns out I have another class with Chester, and I’m hoping we can be partners in Herbology. I didn’t get a chance to get to know him much in Woodland Balance, but the fact he’s in the class means he’s a woodland creature of some sort.

He was sweet and very attentive when we did our class work on the ecosystem of the Ever Woods. His knowledge of plant life and my knowledge of my asshole cousins helped with our assignment on how best to navigate through the hellhole. Granted, I still think thebestway is to never go visit. That’s why I haven’t seen them in a while, though after I was disowned publicly, I didn’t have to worry about being summoned to their houses.

Flying into the greenhouse for class, I spot Chester sitting in the back with his books already out on the long table. I can’t stop the big smile that appears on my face. This is almost better than the high I get from coffee.Hmm. No! Hold off until after class, Moni. Knowing my luck, I’ll spill coffee on him and have to lick it up. Oh wait!

Oh shit! No. Looking down at my arm, I notice the slight purple tint. Eek! No, think of something else. The worst thing that could happen is sitting down next to him looking like a purple disco ball, advertising my horniness. One summer, JP and I made a list and wrote down all the colors I turned into and what emotions I was feeling so at least I knew what I looked like when I felt them.

I think I had it worse than guys. Yes, when they got horny like toads, they had boners, but they can still move their sausages around to make them disappear. I look like a bright violet twig showcasing my needy berries—or would it be considered a plum? Looking back up and willing my skin back to normal, I spot the new girl—Gertrude. I have no problem with my color changing back to normal because seeing her slide up next to Chester makes my heart plummet, and I know my skin is taking on a bluish tone. I guess you can’t win them all even though there’s a small part of me that’s extremely disappointed.

Making my way over to the other corner, I sit down and pull out my book, trying to mind my own business. Who cares if I’m sulking a little, I think I deserve it. The first guy to show me any attention and he’s swept away by Gertrude, the mutated swamp creature’s blob of a distorted testicle.

“What!?”

The shriek and thump in the room causes me and the rest of the students to look towards Chester’s table where he’s quickly gathering his belongings while the seething swamp creature is visibly shaking and clenching her fists.Damn!

The room falls into a hush as Chester picks up his books and walks over to the empty seat next to me. Pushing up his glasses, he gives me a crooked smile.

“Do you mind if I have a seat?” Chester asks in a whisper, but since the room is deadly silent it carries, causing me to turn my whole body pink. Nodding, I push my hair behind my ear and watch as he sits next to me and Gertrude storms past us to take a seat up in the front of the room. After another moment, the silence is finally broken and conversations start back up around us. Chester follows my glance at the walking seaweed and chuckles.

“She’s not very friendly,” Chester says, leaning into me.

“What gave you that idea? Wait, let me guess? You’re psychic?” I start bouncing in my seat as my mood clears and he gets a sparkle in his eyes.

“Not at all. I just politely asked her to move because she smelled like rotten fish to me,” he squeaks, and a faint blush rises on his cheeks that I can’t help but giggle at.

“Oh, that’s all?”

He gives me a blank look and then we break out in a fit of giggles until the teacher comes in and class starts.

Working alongside Chester has made my day. He’s quirky and sweet, but I’m out of my element. I wish JP were here to guide me on what to do.Eww, no. I take that back…I need Rez! She’s a girl, and we can do that talking girl thing I’ve always heard about. Wait, is that what it’s called?

“Moni?” Chester’s soft voice pulls me back from my inner musings.

“Huh?” Glancing at him, a blush graces his cheeks as his fingers run through his wavy hair.

“I asked if you would…maybe…want to get dinner with me tonight?”

Holy pink berries. He’s asking me out. Quick, think of something.

“I mean, it doesn’t have to be tonight,” he rushes on, his Adam’s apple bobbing as if he swallowed a lump in his throat.

“I would love to!” My voice is just below a shout, causing our teacher to give our table a pointed look. Giving her a cheeky grin, I say sorry and bring my attention back to Chester.

The saucy devil is silently laughing at me. He’s lucky he’s cute. “Here! Let me see your phone.”

He places his phone in my outstretched hand, and I quickly put in my number and send myself a text from his phone so I have his.

“I hope you don’t mind. I just texted myself from your phone,” I tell him, handing it back. A brilliant smile crosses his face as he checks for the proof.

“No, that’s perfect,” he says, slipping it back into his pocket.

Yes!

Needing something to do with my shaky hands, I whip out my next to last coffee and start sipping.
