“If you would have some fucking patience and let the man finish speaking, then you wouldn’t have to keep asking him what else. That nigga might not do shit, but I will. So, please– With the night I’m having– Don’t piss me off!”

I settled in the passenger seat again.

“Go ahead. Finish your order.”

“And, let me get two red kool-aids. Both large. Light ice.”

When he quieted, I leaned over again.

“Now, that’s all.”

“Alright, pull around then. I’ll have your total at the window.”

Her attitude was apparent. I didn’t give a damn. Suge’s was incredible and known for the rudeness of their staff. However, there wasn’t a time I’d visited that the food wasn’t spectacular. Most put up with the attitudes of the employees because they knew they’d be rewarded graciously.

Extra fries.

Extra sauces.

Large portions.

Fresh and hot.

The possibilities were endless. If there was nothing more to expect from Suge’s, it was good food and poor customer service. Still, they were thriving. Dooley couldn’t get enough.

“Hold the spit on all of our shit, too,” I yelled as Flocco pulled off.

“I don’t put my hands on women, but these motherfuckers throw down up here. And, if one touches you, I’m going to jail.”

“I can handle my own, Flocco.”

“Point I’m making is, you’ll never have to when I’m around.”

“And when you’re not?” I asked, genuinely curious.

“One call and I’m on my way, Hyph.”

I didn’t counter his claim. Instead, I trained my eye on the window he pulled up beside.

“That’ll be $24.12.”

Flocco reached in his pocket and counted off the necessary bills. Just as he moved to shove the small knot back into his jeans, I reached over and wrapped my hand around it.

“What?”

“I want it,” I admitted.

Defeated, his shoulders slumped, and his head shook from one side to the other. Apprehensively, he released the wad, allowing me to add it to the purse I’d stuffed the government-issued bag containing all of my personal belongings inside. It was the same bag I’d stuffed merchandise from four stores inside of.

One item after another was passed from the window into the car. I wasted very little time puncturing the large Kool-Aid with a straw. It quenched my thirst and lit my taste buds ablaze.

“Mmm,” I moaned lowly.

As Flocco pulled into traffic, I took the time to separate our food. My home was less than a mile away. And the way I planned to damage the makeshift combo would be for my eyes only.

“You need anything else before I–”

“My bed. My shower. My solitude.”
