“Donald hit me in the cheek, and Loni threw a knife at me.”

“I knew I should’ve hurt him more at the police station. I’ll fucking kill Loni, and everyone else.” Demon traced my cheek, his face was hard from anger.

“What do you mean you should’ve hurt Donald more? Were you there when they brought him in?”

“I have to finish some things, and then I’ll tell you everything.”

My dad came out from the kitchen studying us. “Well let’s get everyone together. Angel told me what happened so I can fill you in on what Curtis didn’t tell you. And I have a feeling you have some stuff to tell us. I’ll get everyone in the conference room. Angel get some rest, baby girl.”

My dad kissed my forehead. He and Demon looked at each other in a silent conversation, after a minute my dad nodded and walked out.

“Little girl, I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have let you go.”

“Demon, I’m fine. Donald had a knife, I had a gun. It wasn’t going to end badly for me. Loni just got lucky in her throw.”

I lifted his chin away from my bandage, so he’d look at me. “I’m fine.”

He closed his eyes. His forehead landed on my chest. “I’m going to protect you. This was my fault, but it’ll never happen again. Angel you’re mine. I’m not going to let anything happen to you.”

My heart swelled. I knew Demon loved me after what happened between us, but I still wished he would say it. I guess, you’re mine was as close to I love you as I was going to get.

“You’re mine too.”

I kissed Demon. My arms wrapped around him. He pulled away, both of us out of breath. “Hold that thought. I need to go take care of some things first to ensure you’re safe.” He kissed me one more time. Fierce and hard. “Be safe, don’t do anything stupid. I’ll be right back.”

He walked out his shoulders thrown back with authority of someone riotously pissed off. And ready to protect what was there.

“I love you,” I said when the door clicked shut. I closed my eyes, sending up a positive thought that everything turned out the way I wanted it to.
