Chapter Eight

Angel

“Angel, is that you?” My mom called out when she heard the front door close.

“Nope, it’s the boogie man.”

“Well, you know how I like to boogie.”

I laughed, finding my mom in the kitchen making something that smelled delicious. I gave her a hug, checking her over to make sure she looked fine. The worried daughter and professional nurse, on full alert.

“What are you making?” I opened the pot lid, and inhaled deeply. Having sex all night long and breaking it off with Blake made me ravenous. Besides, I needed to fuel up if tonight was going to be anything like last night.

“It’s a recipe I found in a magazine. Are you staying for dinner? You can invite Blake over. I think your dad said he’d be home tonight.”

I closed the lid, cutting off the smell of heaven and going to lean against the island. “I broke it off with Blake.”

My mom stopped chopping, and set the knife down. “Are you okay?”

I nodded, biting the inside of my lip.

“Is there a reason you broke it off? I’d like to know now so I can think of a way to calm your dad down so he doesn’t kill him. I don’t want this dinner to go to waste.”

My stomach flipped and heat seared up my spine. “It’s not Blake you should be worried about, and Demon said he wouldn’t fight back when he told him.” Everything came out in a rush. I’d never lied to my mom, I had on occasion omitted things, especially all things that involved Demon.

“I think you need to start from the beginning. And if Demon isn’t going to fight back, you better be one hell of a nurse.”

I gave a nervous laugh. “That’s what he said this morning.”

My mom shook her head slowly, blinking as if I was speaking a different language, which in a way I was. I hadn’t mentioned Demon to them in forever. Anytime my parents would bring him up, I would politely listen and take the first opportunity to change the subject.

When I was younger and unable to hide my crush, my mom asked my dad if I was safe around Demon. She didn’t know I was passing by the door. My dad said he trusted Demon like his own son, and she had nothing to worry about. So having Demon brought up now must have thrown my mom for a loop, I understood completely.

I told my mom everything that had transpired, leaving out the naked time in the living room, the bedroom, the bathroom, and the kitchen. My cheeks heated up thinking about Demon naked and sexy.

“I figured you were going to wear him down eventually.”

I gasped at my mom, as she turned off the stove and moved the pot to the back burner, checking on whatever was in the oven. “But I was engaged. You were happy when I told you.”

“I was, but I also knew you weren’t going to ever get over Demon. I was proud that you were trying, but I assumed Demon was going to sweep in during your wedding and throw you over his shoulder. This way you’ll save money.”

“But I thought you liked Blake.”

“Do you want me to feel sorry for him? Do you want me to talk you into getting back with him?”

“No.”

“Okay, then, why are you arguing with me? You’ve been in love with Demon since the moment you realized what love was. I’m happy you got what you wanted.”

“I was going to let him go. The stupid shit I did when I was around him, made me feel bad about myself. I was done chasing after him.”

“Isn’t it funny how that works?”

“Right, if I knew telling him I was engaged and over him would get his ass in gear, I would’ve done it so much sooner.”

“You weren’t ready, and neither was he. You needed to get over your childhood infatuation, and he needed to get the club in order before you two really saw each other and what you two could be.”

“I can’t believe Demon wants to be with me.”
