Chapter Five

Demon

I stood-up, my stitches screaming at the quick movement. I winced as I moved toward her, but that didn’t slow me down. Little girl, wanted to play? Wanted to talk about desire, and then throw her fucking fiancé in the conversation.

Not tonight.

Not after being stabbed.

Not after drinking a half bottle of whiskey.

And definitely not after seeing her in my fucking clothes.

Angel reached out to hold me off, but I brushed off her attempt. I picked up the motorcycle necklace around her neck, tugging her closer.

“Sit down, Demon. You’re going to hurt yourself. I don’t want you to pop a stitch. I’m done playing doctor tonight. In fact I’m done playing.” She huffed as I continued to crowd her. She pushed her hands through her hair, cupping the back of her head. Tears shimmered in her big emotion filled eyes, ready to run down her cheeks.

Fuck, and I was officially broke. I needed to get this situation in check, but instead I answered her.

“You.” My teeth were clenched together. The one word snaked out of me without finesse.

“What?” She put her arms down, letting them hang to her sides, as if she had lost all her fight. I knew exactly how she felt. I hoped I recovered first from this fight.

“You. I fucking want you. I want the one thing I can’t have. The one thing I shouldn’t want.”

“Stop messing with me. I’m engaged, remember? I’m not going to let you fuck that up. You pushed me away anytime we got close. You told me to move on, that it would never happen between us. So don’t you dare patronize me. I’m not in the mood. No more. I’m not that stupid girl.”

“Has it never occurred to you that I’m fifteen years older than you? That your dad’s my second in command. He’s also the most loyal man I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. And we both know he should be running this fucking club. I respect the fuck out of him.”

“So, what the hell does any of that have to do with us? With this stupid fucking game you’re playing with me. Are you saying you want to date my dad?”

This girl was fucking crazy.

I interrupted, not in the mood to talk about dating her dad, and definitely not wanting to talk about some dumbass she thinks she’s committed to.

“Angel, I’m hanging on by my fingernails keeping the reputation of this club on the up and up. With the new way we run things around here, it doesn’t mean the cops have backed off. Now that we’re straight, stupid groups think they can come up and take this all away from me. I’ve got dumbasses thinking they’re a gang sniffing around just waiting to find a weakness. Hell, now that we’re legit, these “rivals” think we’re pussies, and we’ve had to defend this club more than ever.”

“I’m still not seeing your point, Demon.” She pushed her fingertips into her eyes before pulling them back blinking at me. She had faint shadowing under her eyes, and the green was only shiny because of the tears shimmering in them. This was one of the reasons I didn’t want to do this. It was never going to turn out right.

“I need everyone in this club, and others, to see me as an authority figure. I need to keep my head in the game with no distractions, and nothing that could be used against me. For a smart girl you’re being fucking stupid right now.”

Yep, real smooth. At least it got my point across.

“Fuck you, Demon. I’m not the one being stupid right now. Yeah, I’ve done some dumbass things when it comes to you in the past, but I’m not that little girl anymore. I’ve moved on, remember? Say what you have to say so I can get the fuck out of here, and never come back.”

I saw red.

I should let her go. I needed to let her go.

My hands clenched and unclenched at my sides. She was tempting me.

Every time she said she was with another man my vision darkened a deeper shade of red.

Every time she mentioned this dumb-fuck fiancé thinking he could claim her, my blood boiled. I wanted to find him and rip him limb by fucking limb.

This was bad. This was exactly why she needed to get out of here. Yet, I couldn’t give her that final push. Or could I?

“I can’t be with you. I can’t be who you want me to be. We’ll never be your parents. It’s not in the cards for us, and I like variety.”
