“I’m going to shower. Why don’t you order some Chinese?” Demon got up, wrapping the blanket firmly around him.

“I think I’m just going to go home,” I said, still avoiding him.

“Order the food, Angel. You better be here when I get out. You did me a solid, but I won’t have you passing out because I didn’t feed you. I wouldn’t do that to you.”

“I’m not going to pass out. I’m a fucking nurse for god’s sake.” I hissed, finally meeting his eyes.

“Just order the food. I wouldn’t send you home on an empty stomach. I owe your dad too much not to take care of you.”

I stared at his naked retreating back as he left the living room. I wanted to throw something at the back of his head as he just sauntered away like nothing. The urge to defy him was strong. In the end, I grabbed my phone and ordered pizza instead.

He came out in gray sweatpants and a black T-shirt. I swallowed, looking away so he didn’t see how unguarded I felt at the moment. I was chalking it up to the adrenalin burst I’d been riding since I noticed a knife sticking out of him. Even getting woozy from the situation I was still riding high, until now.

“I need to take a shower,” I blurted out, hoping to get my head on straight. I was going to chant Blake’s name the whole time.

I wasn’t going to fuck up a good thing. I wasn’t that stupid little girl anymore.

“Angel.” He was hesitant, I could hear it in his voice, but I couldn’t think about his feelings right now. It’s not like he’d ever thought of mine when he was calling me a kid that he wouldn’t waste his time on. Or after all the times he rejected me. Turnabout’s fair play, assface.

“I have to wash the blood off me.” I walked past him not giving him the attention he was asking for.

After my shower, I cringed when I thought about putting on my old clothes. There was alcohol covering them from work, and blood from sewing up Demon. They needed to be incinerated. There was a knock on the door as I continued to give my dirty clothes a disgusted look.

“I have some clothes if you don’t want to put your old ones back on. I know they were pretty messed up.”

Tears flooded my eyes. He was so confusing. Why couldn’t he decide to be mean or nice? And why couldn’t it be mean? It was so much easier to remember I didn’t want anything to do with him when he was being a dick. I shouldn’t have come over here.

I sniffled as my disgust shifted from my clothes to the door, and the person behind it.

“Angel?”

I opened the door a crack, pushing my arm through it. Not ready to face him. Afraid of exploding from the fuse he just lit. I pulled the clothes back in and put them on. I was proud I didn’t bury my nose in them. See, I could do this.

I had to roll the sleep pants up, and I twist a rubber band on the side to keep them from falling off. The T-shirt fell past my thighs completely covering me. I wasn’t going to win a beauty pageant, but at least they were clean.

I stepped out, and smelled the pizza wafting from the living room. It had my stomach growling, and my legs pushing to get closer. I let my nose follow the delicious smell. Demon sat on the couch, his head leaned back against the cushion. His dark brown hair with streaks of grey was combed back from his shower, giving me full access to his strong sexy face. He must’ve heard me. His head turned to the side, not bothering to pick it up off the couch. He smirked when he noticed me drowning in his clothes.

And I snapped. The pep talk I’d given myself in the bathroom flew the fuck away as if it was escaping prison.

“What the fuck?” I yelled, not caring that I looked like a crazy woman. I felt like a crazy woman, so why not lean into it.

I didn’t let him talk, I kept rolling. “You confuse the hell out of me, Demon. You kiss me like you’re a starving man, and then say it was nothing. You insult me at every fucking turn, then you get all protective. Hell, you even made-out with me, and turned around to tell me it was a mistake. Now you decide to burst into my life when I’m trying to stay away from you. Giving you exactly what you’ve asked for.

“Hell, I even went and found a nice guy, and got engaged, just like you told me to. And is that good enough for you? No, because what do you do? You come to my work on the first night I’m there. You offer me a job where I’ll be around you every day. You stare at me with desire in your eyes but blow me off the next minute. You get a humongous hard-on while I’m stitching you up, which is extremely weird, but I digress. Why are you doing this to me? What the fuck do you want?”
