“That one, yes!” Noah reaches for his phone and starts searching the client log.
“What are you looking for in the client log?” I watch as he scrolls through names, and finally, I see what he’s looking for: Kai’s name, last name, and phone number are on the screen.I knew there was a reason I had chosen this dude as my best friend. He’s smart.
He copies the name and goes straight to social media. He opens the same app that gave me the idea to kidnap Kai and puts the name in, but nothing comes up.
“Search with the phone number.” He copies the number and tries again, but, same as before, no results.
“Search the number on Google; it’ll show any linked social media.” Noah nods and does as I said. And once again, no results.
“Fuck! How hard is it to stalk a guy these days?” I fall back on the couch, disappointed.
“Apparently, pretty hard.” Noah goes back to munching on his cake but suddenly stops, his fork midair. “What did the delivery guy say the bar was called?”
“Good thinking. Search for L & K Bar,” I say, and Noah abandons his cake and goes back into stalking mode.
“Nope. There’s no bar with that name in the area.”Fuck.
“Try K & L Bar.”Maybe I got the bar name wrong.
Noah searches again, and behold, the bar’s social media page appears on the screen. Bingo! He clicks on the posts until he finds one that Kai is tagged in. He clicks on his profile next, and from there, it’s an easy dive into the rabbit hole of social media. The last post he made is the video he took in my bedroom. Two fucking million views. Jesus fucking Christ. Who would’ve thought it would be that popular?
“Hit play! It’s almost time for my next appointment,” I say as I get ready while still keeping my eyes locked on the screen. He pushes play, and Kai’s voice fills the room.
“Hello, Devils. It’s Kai. Your favorite biker!” he starts the video with confidence. “I’m in trouble, and I need your help. Blow up this video so my best friend can see it and come to my rescue.” He continues with a sad expression on his facethat’s most definitely an act. He isn’t even tied up in the video. The little fucker.“Leo, if you see this, I’m being held hostage somewhere in a pink room with stuffed animals and books. I hope the clues are enough for you to find me. Please save me.” The video ends, and Noah turns to me with a raised eyebrow.
“This is both funny and bad,” he points out.
“Tell me about it,” I say as I gather my things to return to work. If I see that damn biker again, I’m going to kill him. I would’ve returned his little favor from earlier first, but now I’m going to straight-up murder him. He’s dead.
Kai
I SHOULD PROBABLY DRIVEhome; it’s eleven in the morning, and I work in about three hours. But the bar opens at two, and that gives me enough time to check on Rachel’s door. Leo did enough damage when he broke in. The asshole had to make a dramatic appearance; he couldn’t just ring the bell. Then again, I guess I shouldn't have sent him that video. I wasn’t in danger, and it was a little dramatic of me, too, to summon him to her house that way. Actions have consequences, though, and I like to take care of mine.
I drive to her house; I already have the address from yesterday. I bet she has someone working on the door. I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t leave the house open, but then again, this woman doesn’t exactly make all the right decisions, especially since one of them was to kidnapme. Either way, I’m going to drop off an envelope with some money for the damage or pay the repairman if he’s still there. I had planned to do it while I was in the salon, but she didn’t seem like she would accept it, and I don’t think she would have wanted me to chat about this in front of her coworkers. I could have done it when we were alone, I guess, but I had my mind set on a different type of conversation between us—the one that had her moaning as she came on my tongue.
When I arrive at her driveway, I see a man working on the door. I park my motorcycle and climb off. He immediately turns to look at me.
“Hello, I’m Kai,” I say casually. “I wanted to pay for the damage if Rachel hasn’t paid you yet.” I chuckle. “I’m kind of responsible for it.”
“Alex,” he says without looking up as he continues working. “There’s nothing to pay for.”What the hell? Who is he? Did she pay already?
“I understand,” I say, defeated, and turn to walk away, but the man speaks again.
“I’m her neighbor; she offered to cook for me in return.” He stands from the spot where he has been kneeling, fixing the bottom hinge. He moves the door, which is now back in place. “I’m guessing you’re the boyfriend my father mentioned yesterday.”
I smile, taking the opportunity to make sure dinner won’t turn into more. “Yes, that’s correct. I don’t usually drink that much; please tell your father I apologize for the inconvenience and thank him for helping me up to Rachel’s bedroom.” He nods, and I continue putting on my best boyfriend act. “I was celebrating my promotion with my coworkers at the bar where I work before their shift started,” I lie. In reality, I own the place, and my only coworkers are Leo, who owns half the bar, and a girl we call in to serve when it gets too busy.
“It happens to the best of us.” Alex smiles as he puts the key in the lock but stops before turning it. “Do you want to get inside? I can give you the key instead. Tell Rachel we can do dinner another time if you guys have plans.”
“If it wouldn’t be a problem, I would like that, yes,” I say with an innocent smile. “We can make sure to schedule dinner another time.”
“Of course. She doesn’t really need to cook for me, but to be honest with you, I’m here visiting, and my father is a terrible cook. I was just hoping for a better-cooked meal.”Poor guy.
“I’ll make sure to drop some off for you.” It’s not a lie. I am going to deliver food for this man; it’s the least I can do. It won’t be home-cooked or cooked by Rachel, but it will be good enough. I know the best place, owned by an old Italian lady who cooks every dish as if it were for her own family, with all the love and care anyone could ask for in the preparation of their food. I make a mental note to take Rachel there. She’ll probably love it, and my woman deserves a first date.
“Thanks, man. I appreciate it.” Alex smiles.
“Thank you for fixing the door,” I say as I enter Rachel’s house.
