It was fast, it was frantic, and Becca absolutely kept her promise to kiss Ellie precisely how Mia had been kissing Alexa. They were fast, they were frantic, but above all they were quiet. Neither woman wanted to risk interfering with whatever it was that was happening down the hall.

They both came fast, too fast, but neither cared. They reclaimed each other, thoroughly and completely, and that was what mattered. Good, slow, sensual sex… they had plenty of time for that another time.

“You’re mine,” Ellie said, “and thank you. For tonight.”

Becca grinned beneath her. “No, you’re mine.” She planted a quick kiss on Ellie’s lips. “We should do that more often.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

“Let’s think about it. I mean, yeah, but I like watching and not taking part just as much.”

Becca nodded. “Yeah, I like you watching. I can save sharing you for someone special.”

Ellie rolled over onto her back, reaching to switch off the light. Becca cuddled up into her, their usual sleeping position, Becca’s head on Ellie’s shoulder, Ellie’s arm around her.

“It was a good night,” Becca whispered.

“The best night.”

Then, through the closed bedroom door, they heard it… faint but unmistakable, coming from the second bedroom.

A moan… another… then another… getting louder… getting closer together…

“Oh my God,” Becca whispered. “They’re really going for it.”

They listened. The sounds built, what sounded like Alexa getting louder, Mia’s voice breaking through, and a steady rhythm now, the creak of a bed. And then there was no doubt, no doubt at all: Alexa came loud and long, a series of cries and swear words followed by silence.

Ellie started giggling, and that set Becca off, and soon the two of them were desperately trying to keep quiet.

“That’s our fault,” Ellie whispered when the giggles finally subsided.

“Good. There’s definitely something there.”

“Totally.”

They lay there in the dark for a few minutes, feeling the house go silent around them, and then the noises started again, what sounded like Mia this time.

“You think this will go on all night?” Ellie asked. “I want to get some sleep.”

She felt Becca shrug against her. “They promised us the full spring break experience tonight, didn’t they?” Becca snuggled in closer.

Then sleepily she added, “Good for them.”

Chapter 30

Ellie woke to bright sunlight and a worrying throb behind her eyes that told her that last night was absolutely about to have consequences. She lay still for a moment, letting it all come to her.I’m in Florida, we went out last night, we went to a bar, we… oh.

She felt herself blush even as she knew she didn’t have anything to blush about, but then she smiled… it all started coming back to her.Spring break, she thought, better late than never.

Ellie reached across to check her phone. 11:17am. Even later than she’d slept after the last time, which told her something about the trajectory of this holiday.

Next to her Becca was face-down, one arm hanging off the bed, her hair a dark catastrophe against the white pillow. She was breathing with the slow, heavy rhythm of someone who was either not waking up anytime soon or was desperately trying toget herself into that state. Either way she was a long way from being ready for coffee, and until coffee she’d be no use to anyone.

Ellie slipped out of bed as quietly as she could, pulling on shorts and a t-shirt. She padded barefoot downstairs to the kitchen.

The house was quiet. The pool glittered undisturbed beyond the glass doors, the sun already high and hot. Evidence of the previous night was scattered around: wine glasses on the poolside, the rum bottle on the kitchen counter with about an inch left in it, and a single sandal near the terrace door that Ellie was fairly sure belonged to Mia.
