“Then let’s do it. Let’s go look at a few, yeah?”
I nod my head when he leans back in to kiss me once more.
Chapter 27
Tide
I’m happy. That’s not something I’ve been in a long time. Mylah and I are looking at houses, she’s happy. What more could I ask for?
“Stop smilin’, you sick fuck,” Patch says as I grin at the dead body on the floor.
“I’m happy, brother.”
“I can see that, but he’s dead.”
“And? That should make us all happy,” I remind him as we look at one of the assholes that pick up local girls for the trafficking ring. We caught him, not on purpose, but we caught his ass nevertheless. And now he’s dead. Just as he should be.
“You get the good pussy last night?” Ranger asks.
“Maybe. Why?”
“Cause I’ve never seen you grin over a dead guy before,” he reminds me. I chuckle and pull out a cigarette, lighting it up.
“Never felt so damn good.”
“This about your girl?”
“This is about life, brother. My life. Finally, everything seems to be fallin’ into place. I got the girl. I got the dog. I’m gonna have the house and kids. What the fuck else could I need?” I ask, looking between the guys.
“To find the ex would be a good start,” Patch reminds me.
“We’re workin’ on that. Mystic has his eye on her,” I tell them. Mystic has been working his ass off to find that bitch. He knows what she did, and now he’s even more intent on finding her.
“Good. We need to get to her soon. I don’t want her gettin’ too far gone,” Patch says. I nod my head, agreeing with him, but as far as I know she doesn’t know that we know anything. I want her and Christian at the same time so that neither of them have the chance to tell the other.
“She ain’t goin’ anywhere. Bitch is broke.”
“Heard that. After spendin’ that kind of money to make Mylah disappear, she should be.”
“Makes me fuckin’ sick to think about,” I tell them before blowing smoke into the air.
“I’m sure it does. That was all kinds of fucked up. I just wonder what made her do it,” Patch asks.
“No fuckin’ clue,” I say as I shrug.
“Well, we’ll find out soon enough. Let’s get this shit cleaned up and get the hell outta here.” We all agree and begin to clean up the mess we made before calling in the others to finish the job. They’ll dispose of the body and make this place spotless as if nothing ever happened here.
When we’re finished, we all file out of the warehouse and into the night, heading toward the bikes.
“You really happy, Tide?” Bane asks me.
“Yeah, I am. You know, when I was locked up, I didn’t think I would have shit when I got out. I mean, I knew the club would be here for me, but that’s about it. I thought I was gonna live mylife alone and lonely, brother. But her? Fuck, she gives me hope. She gives me a future. That’s not somethin’ everyone can have, yeah?”
“You’re right. Not everyone will find the one for them. I’m just worried, is all,” he says.
“About what?”
“You gettin’ hurt. You’ve been through a lot and dealt with a lot more. You’ve lost a lot of time in the pen. I want to make sure you’re good with all of that.”
