Yet, fate shut that damn door abruptly in my face, and now he’s trying to open it again.
“Just nod that pretty little head of yours if you don’t want to go out”—he shrugs his broad shoulders—“I’ll order in. We can hang out, and I’ll try to keep my hands to myself.”
Geezus Christ.
“Micah…” I already hate myself for what I’m about to say. I’m going to literally have this regret hanging over my head for the rest of my life. “I loved our weekend. I’ll never forget it. But the new information that has come to light stops that.”
“I didn’t plan on putting it in the next mass school email, Sienna,” he replies solemnly. “In fact, I swear I can almost hear you backing out on me right now.”
“I’m not?—”
“Good.”
He takes one large step inside my sanctuary and taints it with the smell of leather, patchouli, andhim. It’s amazing how a smell can trigger so many memories and cause your body to overload because it’s a damn battle to really put my foot down here.
Especially when he towers over me with something on his white tee beneath his flannel that has something on it, but I’m too mystified to care.
He demands my attention.
That I listen and pay close attention to every single thing he says.
Kinda how I expect my kids at school to act, but that’s normally a bust.
“I’m starving, Miss Vesper. And I’ve been thinking about you all night, every night since you sat on my dick and rode it likeyou were made for it.” He crooks a thick finger at me, and my dumb ass just moves forward like a robot. I can’t help it. “Now kiss me…and tell me how much you missed me.”

MICAH
“Micah…you shouldn’t be here.”
I shouldn’t, I know that.
I spent over a minute in her driveway contemplating whether I should even get out of my truck. The rest of the time, I battled and rationalized it out in my head that I promised I’d pick her up tonight. That we were going to see each other again.
We shouldn’t.
Fuck knows this might be the worst idea I’ve ever had, but it doesn’t seem like that when she’s standing right in front of me. Sienna is wearing these light gray sweatpants and a baby pink t-shirt that’s balled at one side of her hip that shows off only the tease of skin, and I would like nothing more than to wrap my palms around her ass and slam her into the nearest wall.
Those golden brown eyes manifest the filthiest and most irresponsible ideas in my head. I’d love nothing more than to perform them all, but standing inside her house…not the best decision I could’ve made either.
“You never called off our date,” I reply, tossing the ball back in her court because I’m tired of holding it for a while. Life doesn’t always deal the easiest hand, but it’s how you play the cards that determines how you’re going to win.
“I thought that would’ve been implied.”
I move forward, eating up some of the space between us as she lifts her pretty little chin to look up at me. “I’m a simple man, Sienna. I didn’t go to college. I’ve worked in the same auto shop for over a decade, and I like clear and simple conversations. I like you. And I haven’t dated in over five years since Heath’s mom left us. I haven’t had a one-night stand in two. I’m busy as fuck, I’m raising my kid the best I can, and if it wasn’t for my mama, I’d be drowning more than I am now. You’re the sexiest woman I’ve ever had the pleasure of being with, and I want to know you better. And Ireallywant to know what red outfit you have that you talked about because it’s all I’ve been thinking about since you mentioned it.”
Sienna wraps her arms around her middle and holds my gaze with a slight unease. “You sound wonderful, Micah. But I can’t date a parent. Our district has strict rules about that.”
“What are they?”
“Well…” She presses her lips together as if creating the right things to say or that she doesn’t want to say them. “I couldn’t be Heath’s teacher, for one, and I adore him.”
My chest annoyingly tightens because I’d never want to take anything away from Sienna, even within the short time we’ve known each other.
The fact that she likes my kid is only a bonus.
The reality that I like her is the bitch that seems to suck balls. I came across someone that I didn’t even want to meet, and now I don’t want to breakthis—whatever it was—off quite yet.
