“Okay.” The sound of my phone ringing ended whatever else he could think of. It was Lando, so I decided to take the call.

“I have to take this, but I appreciate you.”

“No worries.” I headed out, answering the second I hit the door.

“Yo fool, what’s going on?”

“Ain’t shit. We haven’t seen you, just checking in. You cool or is being a boss for real too much for your old ass?” He laughed harder than I did at his joke as I got back in my truck.

“Nigga I’m older but you already popping out grays. And naw, definitely busy for sure though. I hired some new crew but took on Congressman Wilson and his wife as clients so I’m sure working.”

“Damn, I see you, bro, pulling in big contracts. So does this mean you’re too busy to catch a game with the boys? JoJo has been asking if you’re coming or not.”

Shit.

I had been slipping when it came to boy’s night.

“I’m coming. The game is tonight, right?”

“Bet, yeah at six. I’ll see you then.”

“Yup.” We hung up just as I pulled into the driveway. I walked in to see Lourdè in the kitchen, already about to cook and listening to Krist, bobbing her head and adding adlibs like she truly knew what she was talking about. I chuckled lowly, enjoying the sight more as I watched her move around, opening cabinets and pulling out what she needed.

Salt, pepper, garlic powder.

This was another thing I wasn’t used to but loved. A lady in my space like it was hers.

It is hers.

I crept up behind her, wrapping my arms around her waist, kissing her neck.

“So now you’re a gangsta about that trenches life?”

“Hell no, and neither are you, but that doesn’t stop you from rapping along with him.” I laughed before I placed one more kiss on her neck.

“Baby, you don’t know my life.”

“I do though. Over the last four months I would like to say I know my man very well. Like how he thought he could sneak out this morning and me not notice. Where did you go?”

I choked on the cran-apple juice I had just taken a sip off. I couldn’t even bask in the fact that it was fresh as hell all thanks to the same woman now wearing a scowl with one hand on her thick hip.

Gotdamn, even with her angry face my damn woman is beautiful.

“Just went to check something out. I got boy’s night tonight. My nephew called to make sure I would be making the Badgers game.” Lourdè’s shoulders fell and I saw the shift in her mood as she turned to put her attention back on the eggs and bacon she was cooking.

“Oh okay. Well, I can go home.”

“For what? You need more clothes or have a late practice?”

“Because you won’t be here.”

“Baby, that’s not a reason to leave. I mean, you do live here, and I’ll be back. You wanna come?”

She shook her head.

“No thank you. You said boy’s night and I, sir, have a whole vagina.”

“It’s pretty as fuck too. Let me see it!” I moved back toward her, turning off the stove while she began to run from me.
