“I can assure you she wasn’t there. Just the beach like she said.” I didn’t acknowledge the other part because I wouldn’t lie. In my eyes there wasn’t any need to.

He looked me over before he nodded.

“Okay, well, see you soon.” I waited until he turned to head back into his house before I got into my truck to leave.

I glancedat Lourdè sprawled out in my bed and smiled. Quincey went out of town, which meant she got to stay with me with no worries of going home at night and I loved every single moment. This was day two and we had another two days left before we knew he would be returning.

I leaned down and kissed her gently, not to wake her but I was leaving my baby here this morning. I had a meeting that didn’t require her presence.

I grabbed my phone off the stand and headed out.

I got to BK’s house in five minutes since we all lived so close to each other.

I texted him since I figured the baby would be sleeping. To my surprise, she was up and in his arms when he answered the door.

“What’s going on, Tunk?” He slapped my hand with his free one.

“Birds and worms.” He chuckled as he led me into his house.

“I feel it, and so does Minnie. So I hope it’s cool if she joins us. In order to ensure only we have this conversation, I let Mickey sleep when she woke up.”

It didn’t bother me at all.

“Yeah. I understand dad duties first.” We made it back to his office where I took a seat across from him as he circled his desk.

“So what’s going on?”

“I need you to follow someone for me. I need dirt and I’m talking filthy ass shit.”

His eyes bulged. “Oh shit, I got you. Who?”

“The Wilsons, excluding Johnni.” He coughed, causing Minnie to squirm on his chest where she had been laying quietly.

“Oh damn. Normally I wouldn’t ask, but does this have to do with Boss and Boss’d Up? Did his ass try something new that I should be aware of? Because we cool but not that damn cool at this point. It’s only through marriage.” I chuckled as I stroked my goatee, quickly deciding not to say too much.

You can’t say shit anyway.

My information had to move limited as hell with this topic. I promised Lourdè discretion and I wasn’t breaking that until it was time to hard launch us to the friend group.

“Naw, but remember I told you I just took them on as a client. I need to know who the fuck I’m protecting. I know Boss used to run names of politicians through you whenever he brought them on, and well… call this covering my own ass to know exactly who I’m dealing with.”

He nodded, writing with one hand.

“Oh shit, that is right. Well, why not Johnni too?”

“I’m covering her, ain’t no need. I see baby girl’s full day; ain’t no secrets there. I got Judge and Jury on him, so I need extra eyes and ears.”

“Okay, how detailed are we talking?”

“I want it all on everyone, including his daddy.” BK snorted.

“Oh, I see you met him. Yeah, he’s a different muthafucka for sure. But I got you. I’ll be in touch and I’ll bill through Bo?—

I cut him off. This wasn’t really business so it wasn’t coming out of company money.

I produced cash.

“Naw, no paper trail.” He squinted at the stack of money then back at me.
