I am not so sure. May I give it to him? I will find you another gem to replace it.
Two. Two green gems.
Yes, then two gems.
Then you may gift it to him.
Thank you.
You are welcome, Wyrmwarden.
I knew not what to say to that title, so I said nothing. Stepping lightly, I moved to the bed where Asdren slept to place the green gemstone on the pillow beside his head. There was no paper or quill, no ink, anywhere in this room, so leaving an explanation was impossible. I doubted I could pen a missive well enough to express how deeply I cared for him, how much it hurt to leave him behind, and how torn I was between staying with him or fulfilling my duty to my king and my country. I dragged in a shaky breath then turned to see Jaculi at the window. I freed him then gathered my gear, taking a final moment at the door to look upon the stout, gruff, loving dwarf who had delved so deeply into my heart.
“I may ride off, but my heart lingers here with you,” I whispered, hoping it was literate enough for a learned male, before slipping out of the room into a cold, lonely new day.
