Her heart melted with love for him. She could very easily fall for this man, especially if he kept being kind to her. ‘I like that idea.’

‘Judy isn’t in today so I can just not open the shop.’

‘No wait, you can’t do that, it’s the weekend before Easter, you’ll be insanely busy. You don’t want to throw away money.’

‘I’d rather stay with you and Jacob and make sure you’re both OK.’

‘I’m fine and I’m sure Jacob is too.’

‘Work doesn’t matter, you matter, and it’s only one day.’

‘Look, we’ll have breakfast, go and collect Jacob and then we’ll both go and work in the shop.’

‘You want to work in my chocolate shop?’

‘Yes, you’re looking after me, I can give something back. Plus it gives me a chance to nobble the competition.’

He laughed but shook his head. ‘I think it’s more important that you rest.’

‘I can do a few hours and if I need to, I’ll come back up here and have a nap.’

‘You promise?’

‘Yes, I’m not going to push it today, not after last night.’

‘OK.’

She climbed out of bed and headed for the shower. At least being in the shop meant she would have time to think about how she wanted to proceed with her relationship with Xander. Spending the day cuddled up inbed with him, as he’d suggested, her resolve to be just friends with him would crumble very quickly.

Immy watched Xander settle Jacob on his sofa with a smile. He was absolutely fine and not showing any ill effects from the fire the night before, but Xander was still doting on him like he was a newborn baby.

The doorbell suddenly rang and he moved over to the intercom to check the camera.

‘Oh.’

‘What is it?’

‘It’s the mayor.’

Immy blinked in surprise. ‘The mayor of Lovegrove Bay?’

‘Yes.’

‘Does she normally pop by for a visit?’

‘It’s a first for me.’

‘Well, don’t leave her standing there.’

Xander pressed the button to talk to her.

‘Hello?’

‘Hello, it’s Belinda… Skye, the mayor.’

‘Yes, I can see you on the camera. Is everything OK?’

Immy moved to his side and could see Belinda looking around for the camera. She spotted it and gave a little wave.
