Isabella’s eyes widened.

“Don’t,” Kelsey warned.

“Okay, okay, I won’t say anything. Except,” she said, clasping her hands in front of her and her eyes going all dreamy, “aww…how cute would you guys be together?”

“I can’t do cute. Or men…anymore.”

Isabella bumped her hip into Kelsey’s. “Listen, I know you’re not ready to date so I’m not going to push you—”

“Good, then please don’t.”

“But sometimes, people come into our lives unexpectedly. Some opportunities present themselves to us when we’re least expecting it.”

“Davis always needs a project. He just wants to fix me.”

“Sweetie, I don’t think that’s it.”

“Really? Because can you actually see the two of us together? We have different priorities and responsibilities. I have three kids and an alcoholic mama, so let’s face it, it’s more like having four kids. He has a TV show.”

Isabella lifted her arms at her sides. “He loves you, Kels.”

“Yeah, well, not like that. And I’m done with this conversation. I plan to have fun the rest of the night, while I can.”

“Okay, you’re right. I’m done. How about karaoke?”

“Yes, please!” Kelsey dragged Izzy toward the stage.

* * *

After three songs, one solo and two duets, Kelsey chugged a glass of water. She’d done pretty good putting Davis in the back of her mind while she’d been distracted by karaoke. But now, sitting alone her curious eyes couldn’t resist a trip around the room. One Vance twin dressed in a Lloyd costume sat at a table with two women she didn’t recognize. The other Vance twin also dressed in a Lloyd costume approached her, at first, she assumed it was Davis until she got a closer look.

“Hey,” Garrett said, propping on a stool across from her.

“I thought you were Davis at first,” she admitted.

“Do you want me to go?”

“No, no, don’t be silly. I just saw the Lloyd over there with those women and assumed.” She gave a flick of her wrist.

“I guess my brother is better in the lady department than I thought. Who knew?”

She shrugged, trying not to glance in Davis’s direction again.

“You knew,” Garrett said, quirking a brow when she glanced up at him.

“What?”

“You two with your,we’re just friends, you guys don’t fool me. I may not know you that well, but I know my brother. And it’s obvious he has real feelings for you.”

“No, he doesn’t…he couldn’t…we don’t.” Her head felt fuzzy.

Music played through the speakers for a few beats before a voice sounded out.

“Do you want to dance?” Garrett asked.

She widened her eyes and bit her lower lip, considering before finally relenting. “Um…sure.”

Garrett took her hand and led her to the dance floor. He rested their joined hands against his chest and pressed his free one to her lower back. She sunk into him, resting her cheek onto his chest. His heart thumped slow and rhythmic. She exhaled a long breath and allowed her eyes to close.
