“You must be drunk if you think I’m getting up there with you.”

“Not drunk. Not yet,” she said, her hips beginning to shake to the music.

“Are you sure you’ve got the right twin?”

“Davis, get your tiny tush up here right now,” she demanded, tugging on his arm.

“Fiiine,” he grumbled.

Suddenly, him up there with her, she was stricken with stage fright. A self-consciousness she’d never felt around him. This was Davis. She didn’t get nervous around him. But tonight, she was. Because he was looking at her with hunger in his eyes.

Hunger for…her.

His desire for her ignited her skin and caused her hips to rock again. When he flashed her a devilish grin, her own lips spread into a smile.

Kelsey placed her palm on his chest, running it down his abs where he felt solid and hard beneath the thin button-down shirt. She had the craving to undo those buttons, very slowly. She bit her lower lip and then spun around in his arms, backing up into him. His grunt was loud enough for her to hear, and it encouraged her to continue dancing. She pushed her butt into him, her hands pumping into the air in time with the music. She bent at the waist, her hat falling off and she kept her backside in the air as a few cheers sounded in the bar.

When she straightened and spun around so she was facing Davis once again, she gripped his hips and forced him to two-step with her briefly, guiding him along as he stayed pressed against her. The feel of his erection, so firm and hard sent a thrill of pleasure racking her body. He smiled relentlessly at her, giving her an adorable shake of his head. With both hands flattened against his chest, she slid them down as she lowered her body in front of him. The song came to an end, and she stood once again, tilting her head, and gazing up at him and finding his eyes darkened.

When the cheering quieted, she said in singsong, “He dances.”

Davis grinned and warmth blossomed in her chest. Oh boy. Yep, he was no longer in the friend zone. Not after his smile alone did that to her. Turning her on was one thing, but causing her heart to explode, that was something entirely different.

“Guilty.” He hopped down and held her waist, helping her off the bar.

“That was fun, right?”

He shrugged. “I guess.”

“C’mon, why can’t you just admit it?”

“Okay, it was fun.”

“Kelsey, you were a goddess up there! I had no idea you had those moves,” Izzy said, wrapping Kelsey up in a hug.

“Oh yeah, I’ve got moves.” She winked at Davis as she took a sip of a beer.

The combination of the alcohol, the dance, and losing O’Henry’s had her feeling daring. Risky even.

Davis gently pulled the bottle from her, “Okay, how about we cool it with that and let’s get you some water.”

Heat coiled through her, and she snatched the bottle back. “No, Davis, stop. I don’t need water.”

“Fine.” He put up his hands in surrender. “I was only trying to help.”

Davis was only worried she’d end up like her mama, that’s what it was. And she wouldn’t. He knew the burden her mama had caused, and she’d never let herself get out of control like that. It hurt that he didn’t trust her.

“Ugh,” she groaned. “You’re always just trying to help. Maybe I don’t need your help. Have you ever thought of that?”

“You’re right. You don’t need me.” Davis stepped back a few feet, staring at her. “I’m sorry.” He spun around and stalked off.

“What was that about?” Isabella asked after he was gone.

Kelsey watched him go, her eyes burning. “It was nothing.”

“Nu-uh, that definitely wasn’t nothing. And that whole dance up there, that wasn’t nothing either.” Her finger twirled in the air.

“I don’t know.” Her cheeks warmed. “Lately, things between us have been…complicated.”
