“You can leave the diorama on the table. Just pack up the stuff you’re not using.”

Kai thought about it for a second. “Can we get a sex swing when we’re out?” Jeez, this boy’s brain was like a jack rabbit.

“Go!” Nolan spun him around and swatted his ass to send him on his way. He did take a second to imagine that tight little ass in a sex swing, legs up in the air while Nolan bounced him on his cock, which was already taking interest in the fantasy.

“I can feel you fucking me with your eyes,” Kai said as he scooped Lego back into the bin. He glanced over at Nolan. “I’d rather you fucked me with your dick.”

“I bet you would, you little cock slut. Five minutes. Hustle up.” Nolan chuckled as he returned to the kitchen. Kai reappeared at his side with his coffee as he was adding the eggs to the pan. He’d already sautéed onions, red peppers, mushrooms and bacon bits and set them aside. Kai peered over his shoulder like he was inspecting his work.

“Look okay?” Nolan asked as Kai watched without comment. Kai nodded. “Do you cook?”

“Nah. Unless it’s box mac and cheese or Mr. Noodle.”

“Grandma never taught you?”

“Nah. She woulda been offended if she caught me making my own food at her house. Even after she got sick, she made all this food and stuck it in the freezer just in case.” A sad smile tugged at the corners of his mouth, squeezing Nolan’s heart.

“She sounds like a good one.”

“The best. But I guess it would have been better if she’d shown me, huh?”

“What about your parents?”

Kai shook his head.

“I don’t know where they are. They left me with my grandma when I was seven. They had some problems with drugs and stuff.” Colour rushed into his cheeks and he didn’t look at Nolan when he said it. Nolan did some quick math. Kai’s grandmother had died before he finished high school. “Who took care of you after that?”

“No one. Well, I guess Liam. But he’s hopeless as fuck in a kitchen. Worse than me.”

“I can teach you if, you want.”

Kai’s eyes lit up. “Yeah, okay.”

Nolan tugged Kai in front of him.

“What’s in here?”

“A little butter and eggs right now. Here. Add your toppings.”

“All over?”

“Sure. The trick to eggs is to add a little water when you’re mixing it up. Not a lot. Just a spoonful or two depending on how many eggs you’re making. Here, add a little salt and black pepper.” He handed Kai the pepper mill and showed him how to twist it.

“Can’t you just buy pepper in a packet?”

“It tastes better when you grind it fresh. Add your cheeseand cover it over. Now we wait. Why don’t you stick some bread in the toaster?”

Kai went off to do what he was told, and Nolan rested a hip against the counter, watching him.

“Your grandma doesn’t seem like she would have left you all alone.”

Kai shrugged with his back turned. “I have an uncle, but we never really got along. I guess he drew the line at having to give me a whole-ass house, so he threw me out instead.”

Nolan stilled. “Wait. What?”

Kai half-turned, frowning, probably at the immediate concern in Nolan’s voice. “What?”

“Your grandma left you her house, but your uncle didn’t want you to have it?” Was he understanding that right?
