"Mhmm. But, she works for the team so I doubt either of them would ever make a move."

"Is it against the rules?"

"Not exactly, at least as far as I understand, but it is frowned upon in the league in general."

"No rules like that in the music industry." I reply and she turns to me with renewed interest.

"Really? Are people just hooking up all the time?"

I laugh. "Sort of, and on the road there’s a lot of new people to meet in each city."

"Do you have any spicy stories?" Harper’s entire body turns to me, eager for gossip.

"Not as many as others. And I’m flying to D.C. to get back together with Duncan, I’m not going to be kissing and telling about other guys now." Harper leans back with a harumph and I laugh. "Besides, I’m sure Duncan has stories he’s not telling too."

"You’re right. It is still a bummer for me."

We continue chatting about music in general for a while and then agree we should get some sleep.

The flight attendant wakes me to bring my seat upright before landing. Harper yawns and starts to come back to life.

The landing is a little bumpy and it does nothing to calm my nerves.

I shove the doubts to the bottom of my baggage.

I’m doing this.

I’m giving myself to him completely.

And I’m preparing to accept whatever he can give me in return.

"Mr. Reid! Welcome back." Duncan’s doorman, Davis, greets me as he opens the door.

"Hello Davis. Good to see you."

"Just in for the day or are more bags in the back of the car?" He looks down at the one duffle I packed.

"Um, no just the one."

"Alright, well, you know the way." He gives me a smile, I return it and walk on heavy feet to the elevator.

I should have had Duncan pick me up at the airport. I was pumped up. I was ready. And being in the back of the car service SUV brought memories of Halloween to the surface.

Which turned me on.

Which turned into anxiety.

We won’t be together for him to give me impromptu blow jobs in the back of cars.

My stomach drops as the elevator ascends because the conversation with Davis only stirred up more uncertainty.

The door opens into his entry, the scene taking me back to the night just a month ago when Duncan and I couldn't get on the same page.

Without saying the words, we both refused to sacrifice more than the other.

Are we really in such a different place now?
