Reaching back, Brantley gripped behind Reese’s knees, slamming his hips back to take him deeper. Reese groaned. His hips pistoned on short, shallow thrusts as he drove them both higher. Brantley never wanted it to end, but he was close. So fucking close. Every muscle in his body tightened, forcing him to release Reese so he could reach for his cock. He gripped it tightly, staving off his release for as long as possible, but it didn’t matter. He was overwhelmed with pleasure, the sensual assault on his body too much for him to fight.

“Oh, fuck, Reese!” he bellowed, slamming his hips back, jerking his cock roughly.

“Brantley…”

He heard the warning in Reese’s tone, knew he was right there with him.

And when Reese came deep inside him, it triggered his release, and Brantley was sure every molecule in his body exploded, shattering before fusing back together. It left him feeling replete in a way he’d never experienced before.

Chapter Twenty-Five

Friday, March 18, 2022

JJWOKE UP TO AN EMPTY BED.

She stretched as her brain came fully online, processing the fact that there was light streaming in through the bedroom window. She glanced at the clock, noticed it was after eight. She’d slept later than usual, smiling at the realization. She was still tired, but not so much that she wanted to stay in bed all day. Well, not if Baz wasn’t with her. If he’d been here, there was a good chance she would’ve been sitting astride him by now, slaking the lust that consistently hummed under her skin from his proximity.

“Mornin’, sleepyhead.”

The dark thunder of Baz’s voice had her looking over at the door. He was leaning against the doorjamb, naked from the waist up. She took the opportunity to admire the smooth, hard plane of his chest, the rippling washboard of his abdomen, letting her gaze rake over every delicious inch. The longer she stared, the louder that hum got.

“You hungry?”

She listened for a response from her body, shook her head when her stomach did that little twisty thing it’d been doing for the past month or so. “I don’t think I’m awake enough for food,” she told him. “Maybe a shower first.”

“You do that, and I’ll make some coffee. Then when you’re ready, we can go check out Bristol’s house.”

JJ felt a flutter in her chest, a giddiness she was getting used to.

When he left, she sat up slowly, dropped her feet to the floor. Her stomach lurched, so she sat still, breathing in deeply through her nose, out through her mouth until the unsettled feeling dissipated. Once she was steady, she got to her feet and headed for the bathroom.

She stared at her reflection in the mirror, wondering if she was imagining the glow on her face. It was happiness, she figured, another thing she was getting used to, thanks to Baz. She thought about the house they were going to look at, felt the giddiness return as she turned to grab a towel from the closet. She opened the door, reached in, and stopped short, something niggling at her brain when she noticed the box of tampons stashed inside.

Her analytical brain instantly kicked into gear, calculating the days since the last time she used them. It wasn’t something she generally thought about, but something told her it was important to do the math.

“Oh, shit,” she muttered, closing the door then leaning back against it.

She swallowed hard. How long had it been? She held up a hand, used her fingers to count, although she wasn’t sure what exactly she was counting.

Her hand went to her stomach, and she took a deep breath. “Oh. Shit.”

“JJ?”

Her gaze slammed into the closed door. “Yeah?”

“You all right?”

“Uh…” Was she?

His voice sounded concerned when he called her name again. A second later, the door opened, and then there he was, filling the doorway, larger than life, his teal-blue eyes pinned on her, worry etched into the lines near his eyes.

“What’s wrong?”

Her eyebrows lowered as she tried to think back to the last time she would’ve had to refrain from having sex with him due to the inconvenience of her period. She was on birth control, but admittedly, there were times she forgot to take it. Not too often, but a slip every now and again. There were also the times she skipped the sugar pills and moved right into the next month just to avoid the blasted period.

“JJ? Baby, talk to me.”

“I was just … uh…”
