“Yeah?”

“Thank you for being here.”

“Baby, there is no place I would rather be.”

“Hello Maya, I came as soon as I heard, I’m sorry we’re meeting again under these circumstances,” Dr Smyth says kindly.

I know it’s his job but he is so good at putting me at ease. I don’t know how I would have gotten through the past year without him. This isn’t his usual hospital, yet he still made the effort to be here for me.

“You and me both,” I say, trying to smile in return, and failing.

“I have looked over your notes but I just want to check you over myself and if everything is okay, you’re good to go. I do have to inform you that the police are here and need a statement but only if you’re up to it Maya. Say the word and I will make them leave,” He says in earnest. The thing is, I believe he would do just that too.

I want to speak to the police, I need to tell them everything and anything I can that will help catch Jake. I can’t carry on living half a life.

“Send them in, I want to end this nightmare,” I tell him sternly.

“Good, I agree. I’m not going to lie, I’m worried about you. I have never known anything like this before,” He says, his eyes sympathetic as he looks at me. “They are just speaking to Gracie at the moment, but as soon as they’re finished, I will send them straight in.”

“Thank you.”

“Thank you so much for everything doc,” Tommy adds, fondness creasing his eyes. “We owe you a drink at least for how helpful you’ve been. I don’t know how we can show how much it means to us.”

He would fit in with our group easily, inviting him out with us wouldn’t be such a bad thing.

“Maybe that drink can wait until I’m not under threat?” I tell Tommy, a hint of a smile crossing his face.

Before we say another word, the door opens and Fallon rushes into the room looking breathless, she soon freezes at the sight of Dr Smyth.

“Oh, er, Hi Lu… Dr Smyth,” She mutters shyly.

Hmmm, what the hell is that? And why is Dr Smyth blushing? This is one hundred percent something I need to ask her later.

“Hello Miss Jackson, it’s lovely to see you again,” He smiles warmly, his eyes never leavingFallon. Oh, there is definitely something going on here.

“You too,” She says quickly before turning back to me. “Listen, Gracie is doing well, but the police are in there now and they’ll be up here soon. I just wanted to give you the heads up. Do you want me to stay with you Maymay?” Her eyes watery as she asks.

I don’t want to upset her by telling her no, but I’d much rather her not know what happened. I can tell how upset she is already, if she knew he had touched me and what he had almost succeeding at doing… it would break her. She’s been through enough.

“I’ll be fine Fal, don’t worry about me. I’m ready to get back home and sleep for a week,” I smile lightly, trying to put her at ease. Ever since losing Harry, she hasn’t been herself, she’s an anxious mess, worrying over everything and now that this has happened right in front of her, I don’t know how she would cope.

“Cabin home or Tommy’s house, home?” she asks, raising her eyebrow.

Thinking about it, I do feel at home at Tommy’s place, I didn’t realise how much until now. This week with him at the mansion he calls a home has been magical.

“Either,” I settle on saying. “I need a good sleep and a decent cup of tea.”

“Oh god me too!” She exclaims. “The tea and coffee in thisplace is gross!”

“I can always make you one from the staffroom if you prefer,” Dr Smyth chimes in, quirking a brow at her.

“Erm…” Fallon murmurs, looking sheepish.

“Yes, that would be great. Wouldn’t it? Fallon,” I reply for her seeing as she’s lost for words.

“Ye-yes. Please. If you don’t mind,” She stutters. Our girl has got it bad, and I don’t think the sexy doctor can hide his feelings towards her either.

“Well, Maya I’m happy for you to go home today. I just need to sort your paperwork out, so I’ll make you that drink before I get to it. I’ll see where the police are up to too.” He starts to leave the room, but as he gets to the door he glances back over his shoulder. “Fallon, would you like to help me with the drinks?” He asks confidently, his eyes fixed on her.

“Sure,” She replies as she follows him out of the room.

As soon as the door closes, I spin to look at Tommy.

“I have never seen her act like that before, have you?”

“No, but I really like him for her, he’s a good fella,” He says thoughtfully.

“Yeah, I think so too!”
