Sitting up straighter in her seat, her smile spreads wide.
“I cannot wait! It is going to be the first night that we can go out and just have a good time.”
“I’m more excited for our pre-drinks!” I exclaim. “Is there anything better than having all the girls in one place, getting ready with a wine in hand?”
“Ah, I know. Me too. I’ve been and bought some Pornstar Martini cans, they're in the fridge, chilled and ready.”
This girl loves a cocktail, and a Pornstar is her favourite.
“Luke, what are you doing tomorrow? You should come along, there aren't many of us, butyou’re practically family now, so you should be there,” Tommy says.
Luke looks to me before answering, more than likely gauging to see if I’m going to freak out at the idea. The thought of him with my brothers and friends actually doesn’t sound bad to me at all.
“You should come! I feel awful that I didn’t think of it sooner,” I say.
“I did say I'd see my two friends tomorrow, but if it's okay with you, I'll bring them along,” Luke suggests. “You’ve met them both, the last time Maya was in with me.”
“Sounds good to me, the more the merrier. You know, I have never met one of Fallon's boyfriends before,” Tommy says out of nowhere, his head tilting as he thinks. “Actually, I don’t ever remember you having one.”
If only he knew the reason why. I can see Maya wince a little, but her head is under his chin, so he wouldn’t have noticed. Luke, on the other hand, picks up on everything. His fingers stroke up and down my arm in soothing patterns, even when he still didn’t know the whole story.
“That’s because I’m fussy, and any man hasn’t been good enough for me,” I force a laugh. The last thing I need is for Tommy to turn all grumpy and wreck our evening.
If he ever found out the truth, I'm pretty sure we'd be visiting him behind bars.
“Well, aren’t I the lucky one,” Luke adds, tickling me with the stubble on his jaw along the top of my head. “Now you’re stuck with me.”
“Nope, you're the one stuck with her,” Tommy says before throwing a pillow at us. “There is a no returns policy.”
“Hey!” I shout, throwing a pillow back. “I am a treasure.”
“It’s a good job I want to keep you then, isn't it?” He whispers, and from the giggle escaping Maya's lips, I'm sure they heard him too.
Before any of them can embarrass me any further, the pizza delivery is here. The other two head out of the room together, whilst Luke and I stay curled up. This feeling is something I never thought I would experience. Happiness. True happiness, with a man that I think I'm falling in love with. If only I had met him sooner, maybe life wouldn’t have ended the way it has.
“Hey,” he says. “Is everything okay?”
Turning my head, which is now against his chest, I look up into those beautiful eyes of his.
“More than okay,” I smile. “I like this.”
“This?”
“You, me, here. I feel… happy.”
His eyes stare into my very soul, just for a moment, before kissing me so sweetly.
“Me too, baby. Me too.”
